How To Wear Tweed Jackets

Hi. I’m Zoe Lem, stylist and owner of My Sugarland, and today, I’m going to give you some insider’s tips on how to do fashion. I’m now going to show you how to wear a tweed jacket. It’s quite heavyweight fabric, and can be quite difficult to wear, and if you get it wrong, it can make you look really frumpy and really bulky. So, you need to get the right shape, and go for the right texture for you. They can vary, tweed jackets. You can go for really thick, quite bulky, quite patterned.

We’ve gone for quite a plain here which is much more flattering. It’s still got the texture in it. It’s still got the grain which is great. So, you can see the tweed kind of, grain coming through, but it’s going to be much more slimming because it can be quite thick. We’ve got a darted jacket so it nips in at the waist. So, it’s still flattering, it’s still going to look great. The sculpted edge here, again, the lines all going vertically, any line that goes through the body vertically is lengthening so this is a great shape for lengthening the body. You’ve got concealed placates, concealed buttons there, and the darts, and the length, and that works really well. But this is quite nice.

Rather than going to going out shooting, this is got a bit of a twist. So, we’ve got the lace details. It’s kind of Victoriana meets down in the country. There’s a real English eccentric trend at the moment. So, we’ve got a great shape and this is accessorizing it. We can go a little bit English eccentric with this, because of the trend that’s out there now, without looking too wrong being out in the city or somewhere else that’s in contrast to the environment. This is actually a snood, very 80’s, and an old-fashioned thing, but actually, it’s having a revival. So, you can have it one layer down, but actually for this, to work with the neckline of the jacket, I’m going to do a double layer. So, it’s quite tight around the neck but you still see all of this nice neckline here. This V is really flattering, and again, if you’ve got a bigger bust, it’s good. You want to keep the detail off the bust, so this is a little bit higher, this pocket detail, which is good. So, we’ve got the brown scarf here. We’re going to tie that in which a little brown hat. Hats are much more on trend now. A lot more people are wearing them. This is new but a vintage-y style. So, you’ve got the little hat, tying in the colors, so you want to bring in those colors, so you’ve got the balance head to toe. If you were going to bring in an alternative color, you need to put it somewhere else as well. We’ve then got the chestnut color boots as well, so it ties in with the hat, and I would just do very simple trousers. So, you could do black, you could do navy, so you’re not bringing up the trousers you don’t want to be seen. You don’t want to do horse-riding, pantaloon style trousers. Keep those simple. And these are just our accents of trend and theme.

Then we’ve got a bag, this one is by Harris Tweed, which is great. So, it’s got the tweed again but then with the leather mix. So, you’ve got the bag, you’ve got the hats, we’re kind of on trend with tweed, but without going completely old-man. And this is how to do a tweed jacket. .
