Celebrity Chic Style for Less: Get the Look
We all have our favourite celebrity. Someone we think always looks fabulous, even when papped running out for milk. Of course the celebs don’t always get it right, and magazines are quick to notice when they don’t, but generally we are all keen to emulate great celebrity style.
What we have to remember is celebs have it easy when it comes to fashion. It only goes wrong when they try TOO hard. Even if they don’t have a stylist (which most do for big events), then they have the money to spend on the latest trends, picking up a whole catwalk look without batting an eyelid. Furthermore, designers and brands give them designer clothes to wear, they get it for free! That said, you don’t have to spend loads to get the celeb look. With a bit of creativity and shopping around, you can look just as good as your fave celeb, if not better.
Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez proves that you don’t have to be stick thin to look absolutely amazing. Jen loves to show off her figure in Herve Leger bandage dresses which easily cost well over $1000. Luckily it is a trend that many brands have picked up on this season so you can pick up a great bandage dress for less than $50 like this one from Forever 21. Don’t forget the bling, some oversized costume earrings will add to the JLo look. When going casual opt for leggings, heels and an oversized top which shows off the shoulders.
Blake Lively
Getting Blake’s laid back style is easy to achieve on a budget. Stock up on jersey basics, oversized t-shirts, vests and high waisted skirts. For evening try a printed girlie dress, florals are still around as we move into spring.
Vanessa Hudgens
Vanessa is all about glam boho looks. Try an animal print maxi dress but go for subdued colour for a sophisticated rather than trashy look like this one from ASOS. Baby doll dresses look cute, or for a daytime look opt for a denim shirt cinched with a tan belt. Stock up on gold costume jewellery for an Eastern vibe.
Nicole Kidman
Nicole’s style is very grown up and sophisticated. You might think it’s hard to pull off cheap tailoring and make it look expensive, but you would be wrong. A stretchy pencil skirt will follow your curves, and team it with a crisp white shirt for a classic look. You can get the classic look from Target, where skirts are just $19.99.
The other option is to buy clothes (loosely) designed by the celebs themselves. Everyone who’s anyone has their own clothing line now. Try Paper Crown by Lauren Conrad, ‘a collection for those who like to play dress up in a grown up world’ or Day 22 by model Katie Price. Popstar Pixie Lott has a range with Lipsey and actress Emma Watson has a Brit preppy youth collection with ethical retailer People Tree.
The most important accessory to your celeb look for less is attitude. Attitude doesn’t cost anything but contributes a lot to the image you project. I don’t want you to start demanding diet coke wherever you go or queue jump at a restaurant, but stand tall, walk with purpose and greet everyone with confidence. People will notice.
