Five Summer Fashion Faux Pas Made by Men

Summer is the time when everyone wants to look their best, no matter what their age or gender. Women and girls come out in bright tops and jeans or summer dresses but most men never seem to get their summer wardrobe quite right. Sure, they recognise that there is little or no need for a jacket, but their choice of sweaters and tee shirts, as well as footwear, often lets them down. You can wear colours and patterns in summer, but below are a few common mistakes that you should avoid.

1. Too Much or Too Little

The mistake that most men make when dressing for summer is that they either wear too much or too little. A pair of jeans or cut-offs is fine with a decent tee shirt when the weather turns warmer, while going topless in shorts and sandals with socks is a big no-no. Many men still tend to overdress during the summer as they feel that lighter clothing is meant of the beach not the street. If you feel underdressed without a decent shirt when you are in town, then take a look at some of the cooler Barbour patterned shirts available.

2. Overdoing the Accessories

In recent years an increasing number of men of all ages have gone down the accessories route. Scarves, hats, bracelets and sunglasses are becoming de rigueur for many men during the summer months. The best way to dress in summer is to keep accessories to a minimum, a pair of sunglasses and a watch are enough for most men. If you need to protect your head from the sun, switch to a light baseball cap.

3. Heavy on the Denim

Jeans are great but during the summer some men wear jeans that are far more suited to the cold and wet of winter than the summer sun. Switch to some jeans that are made of lightweight distressed jeans during the summer, you will feel more comfortable and your movements will be less clumsy.

4. Too Much Facial Hair

A long beard is hot, uncomfortable and untidy looking so you might want to think about changing your look. Nobody is asking you to ditch your beard altogether but it is worth thinking about how much cooler you would feel with a little less hair brushing your chest. Make sure that your beard is well trimmed during summer and you will feel and look ready to deal with the season.

5. Socks and Sandals – No

Socks and sandals are not a good look, but that doesn’t mean that you should go down the opposite route of wearing your kickers and ditching the socks. Keep your sandals for high days and holidays. Wear lightweight socks during summer and change your summer footwear frequently if you want to keep trainers fresh. Wear lightweight shoes in the warmer weather and your feet will feel cooler and look stylish. While you may not wear wellies, except on a very wet day, heavy shoes are just not a good look with casual summer wear.
