Saving Mr. Banks Movie Review
From the moment I saw the previews for Saving Mr. Banks I knew it was a must see, with stars like Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson I was sure it couldn’t disappoint, and I’m truly excited to write this movie review. So many of us grew up singing the wonderful songs of the Disney classic “Mary Poppins”, and yet we didn’t know there was such a profound story behind it. Who can forget the famous songs like Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious or Chim Chim Cher-ee, written by Richard and Robert Sherman, which won Oscars® at the 1965 ceremonies. “Mary Poppins†won five awards of its 13 Academy Award® nominations: Best Actress (Julie Andrews), Best Effects, Best Film Editing, Original Score and Original Song. Among the nominations were Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. With the movie being such a success it’s only right that we find out how much went into just trying to get the film made… after watching Saving Mr. Banks not only did I have an immense feeling of nostalgia, I also had a deep appreciation for what was once believe to only be a childhood tale. We are given an intimate glimpse into who Mr. Banks, played by the oh so handsome Colin Farrell, really is.
“Saving Mr. Banks†is the first feature-length, theatrical drama to depict the iconic entrepreneur Walt Disney. The movie takes us on the journey that Mr. Disney embarks to convince writer P.L Travers to make his daughters’ favorite book “Mary Poppins” into a movie. In the movie we get to fall in love with Walt Disney, re-fall in love with “Mary Poppins” and connect with the story from an in-depth realistic point of view. This makes for a good family night, night out with friends or a date… because like any Disney movie it’s made so that everyone can relate to it.
Tom Hanks did a phenomenal job playing Walt Disney, his acting always makes you forget you’re not watching a character. And Emma Thompson was the perfect compliment as she played P.L Travers, both held their own in the movie cohesively… while standing out as the stars they are.
Your Life After 25 gives Saving Mr. Banks a 10/10
