Take Your Shoes Off At The Door

There are many people who not allow shoes to be worn in their homes, but this is usually done to prevent soil from making its way inside all areas of the home. Another reason why this is a great idea is because it will keep pollen from spreading throughout your home. When you go outside in the spring, pollen can stick to the bottom of your shoes. Taking them off while you are in your entryway will prevent your entire house from being taken over by this allergen.

Clean Your Filters Regularly

In the spring there are some days that require the use of a fan. Before you turn on the one that is built into your air conditioner, make sure that you have changed the filter. Even if you do not run the unit that often, there is a chance that allergens are waiting to be spread into the air. Ideally, you should change the filters every two to three months.

Keep Your Windows Closed

Unfortunately, if you are an allergy sufferer, putting up the windows in your home can do more harm than good. While you may think this is the best way to let fresh air in, this is an entrance for all types of dust, mold and pollen. If you need a bit of fresh air, it is best to keep the windows shut and rely on a fan or air conditioner.

Keep An Eye On The Pollen Count

If you have a tight work schedule that cannot be changed, this tip may not do you any good, but it can be very helpful otherwise. By checking the projected pollen counts for the week, you can avoid going out on days that it is going to be rather high. You can save all of those errands for days when things are a bit more bearable. Also, pollen counts are normally at the highest in the middle of the day, so try doing things in the morning and/or evening.

Use A Dryer For Your Clothes

While it may be more environmentally friendly to use a clothesline for all of your clothes, this is a great way to welcome pollen into your home. Having clothes sitting in the open air is a great way for pollen to find a place to settle. Even though it may use a bit of additional energy, you would be better off using a dryer. If this is not an option, you can hang them up around the inside of your home.

Dealing with spring allergies is not something that anyone looks forward to, but it must be done. Use the advice here to make it a bit easier to manage your symptoms. While they may not go away fully, they will not be as bothersome as they typically are.
