The Most Expensive Celebrity Weddings Of All Time
The news that Kanye West and Kim Kardashian were planning for their wedding to take place at The Palace of Versailles has made us want to reflect on some of the most luxurious celebrity weddings of recent years.
David and Victoria Beckham
When Posh and Becks said their vows in 1999, they chose a far from modest ceremony. The bride wore a silk gown which included a twenty feet train flowing behind her as she walked down the aisle. And making the ensemble even more captivating was the inclusion of a glamorous diamond-encrusted crown that she wore to project a truly royal aesthetic on the festivities. This was classic Posh and Becks glamour if we ever saw it.
Two hundred and fifty guests were in attendance, many of whom were celebrities in their own right, such as Elton John who serenaded the happy couple with some of his biggest hits. However, this wedding was actually a rather tame event one when compared to other celebrity weddings…
Elton John and David Furnish
Since we’re already discussing Elton and David as wedding guests, let’s not forget the sheer luxury of their own civil ceremony in 2005 when the couple spent a massive $1.5 million with Windsor Mansion as a suitably stylish setting. And it will surely come as no surpise to learn that Elton regaled his 600 guests with a few of his most classic tunes. Well hey, he does so at everybody else’s wedding so why not at his too?
Michael Jordan and Yvette Prieto
When basketball superstar Michael Jordan got hitched to his model girlfriend, Yvette Prietoin in April of 2013, the ceremony came with a masive price tag of ten million dollars! This Palm Beach wedding was held at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, and saw the bride glammed up in a gown from J’Aton Couture which was emblazoned with Swarovski crystals. And as if this wasn’t glamorous enough, the couple arranged for their musician friends Usher and Robin Fricke to perform for the enjoyment of an array of celebrity guests including Tiger Woods and Spike Lee.
Paul McCartney and Heather Mills
When Sir Paul tied the knot with model Heather Mills in 2002, he did so at a cost of $4.2 million. The wedding took place at the enchanting Irish Castle Leslie, where 300 guests were in attendance, including many of Paul’s old rock and roll mates, such as Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, and every celebrity’s favourite guest, Sir Elton John.
In accordance with the couple’s personal beliefs a banquet of vegetarian food was served at a ceremony heavily inspired by Indian culture. When the marriage ended in 2008 the costs of the divorve were so high they nearly matched the price of the wedding, but at least the ceremony was a beautifully unique and memorable occasion.
Prince William and Kate Middleton
Well, we couldn’t very well mention glamorous weddings without including our royal couple. The 2011 union between the Duchess and Duke of Cambridge cost around $34 million and was viewed by a total of 180 countries around the world.
The Westminster Abbey ceremony boasted amazing luxury, including Kate’s dress which cost $70,000. The assortment of flowers used at the wedding came to a grand total of $800,000, and the wedding cake cost a luxurious $80,000. What else would you expect for a future king and queen?
