Rumble Ellen Hopkins

For me, this opportunity to write about Rumble came at a very ominous time. Most don’t know this, but I lost 2 VERY close people to me over the summer and one was a suicide. As I learned more about Ellen Hopkins’ main character in Rumble, Matthew Turner, I realized I could relate to a lot of what he was feeling. When we lose people close to us, it’s hard to not want to blame others and ourselves. But through time and support comes healing.

Check out the “Rumble” Trailer

ABOUT RUMBLE
Rumble, brought to us by The New York Times bestselling author Ellen Hopkins, tells a story that covers faith, forgiveness, self discovery and healing.

Matthew Turner, the main character, has just been through a huge ordeal after his younger brother was bullied into suicide. We’re able to go on a journey and witness the pain, suffering and awakening that happens with Matthew. But when a horrific event plunges Matt into a dark, silent place, he hears a rumble . . . a rumble that wakes him up, calling everything he’s ever disbelieved into question.

A serial criminal broke into the apartment where my daughter and I were staying. It shattered my illusion of safety. It turned my “lollipops and rainbows” world upside down. I was black and blue, couldn’t talk for weeks from being strangled and my arm was broken, but I also learned that I am more fierce and courageous than I knew. The animal instinct came out in me, and I was able to fight off this huge man for half an hour ( though it seemed like many hours) until the police kicked in the door.

  • Alita Alexander

My neighbor is very distressed by that murderer in our neighborhood. Her son was on the same wrestling team and was friends with the killer at school. How to know ‘who’s who’.. how to know if your ‘friend’ at school will be the next killer. So difficult for all the students at that school too! Pray for us all, thanks! <3

It seemed at one point that things would never get better after hubby losing his job, then I lost my job, then we lost our home, put our dog down, Put my father in a memory care center, and sister in law had surgery for brain tumor. Even after all the positive thoughts some days were hard to stay positive, and then it just became easier and finally the clouds began to blow away and life has started to get on track again.

  • Angela P

When I found out my newborn baby has a fairly rare genetic disease and is legally blind.. I blamed myself and was in pain for a long time. Truthfully I am still working on it.. but I am starting to accept it and have grown so much as a person because of it. I now look at it more as a blessing in disguise than something horrible.

  • Donna_46

    • My pleasure @donna_46:disqus! Thank you for showing love 🙂

  • Alita Alexander

We were very close to my Grandmothers; two lived together, one worked, one much older stayed home and took care of the family. When I was a teenager, my Great Grandmother (the one that stayed home) had a heart attack. I moved into their home to stay and be there during the day so she wouldn’t be left alone. She got stronger and I moved out. Many years later, she passed away. It was very difficult for me. I love her so much and we were very close. But thank God, I was able to spend time with her and get to know her more when she was alive. <3

The day my children stood up at the counter with a ton of people sitting in chairs behind us and the man behind the counter said, “We don’t know that these are his children. He doesn’t claim them and we need to take their ID’s away from them.” Their ID’s proved they were his children. Humiliated and hurt publicly we all quietly walked out. They ‘broke down’ and cried half way down the walkway to the parking lot.

My life has been all about “Rumbles” from drowning as a child and being sent back, being in an extremely abusive relationship for years and being unable to flee, being diagnosed with cancer and given six months to live nineteen years ago and numerous emergency surgeries that I was not suppose to survive. And these are just a small glimpse of my life.

I have witnessed Angels and know that the only reason I am here is by the grace of God. And I know he has numerous plans for me that are going to be great !
