Movie Review: Black or White

We live in a world where discussing race often makes people uncomfortable. I’m a firm believer that until we can discuss and accept our differences, we may not be able to move forward in a positive way. Just as the difference between men and women, race isn’t something that can be ignored or pushed aside. At the end of the day we’re all one race, the human race. With that said, when I saw the previews for Black or White movie I was definitely intrigued, especially when I found out it was based on a true story. Black or White tells the story of a grandfather, played by Kevin Costner, who suddenly finds himself having to care for his bi-racial granddaughter Eloise… it is at this time that Eloise’s paternal grandmother, played by Octavia Spencer, comes to fight for custody.

Black or White addresses racial taboos amongst families and the in-depth emotional turmoils that are faced from the loss of someone special. We were so happy that we were able to give away passes to our readers in Atlanta, I was pleased to hear all the great feedback. Black or White is definitely a great movie for a family or date night. Eloise made me laugh so much, she reminded me of my 4 year old niece with all her bossy and funny antics. All I can say is be sure to bring some tissue, there weren’t many dry eyes left in the theater by the end of the movie
