5 Winter Cocktails to Enjoy With Family and Friends

The winter months are a popular time for family to gather while enjoying good food and delicious drinks. There is truly no better time to enjoy winter inspired cocktails at parties and family gatherings. The spicy and sweet flavors we associate with the season pair perfectly with a mixed drink. 1. Hot Buttered Rum

This holiday classic is the ultimate in comfort drinks. It incorporates brown sugar and bourbon to provide a caramelly sweet flavor that is perfect for a cozy night around the fire. To make this cocktail, cream butter and brown sugar together with your favorite holiday spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. Place a dollop of the mixture on the bottom of a mug and add equal parts of rum and hot water. Finish the drink by garnishing with a cinnamon stick.

2. Christmas Mojito

This recipe takes a classic mojito and gives it a twist that makes it the perfect beverage to enjoy at a late night party. The two main flavors of a classic mojito are the rum and mint. This recipe retains those flavors while adding the tangy sweetness of cranberry. Make this drink by muddling fresh mint leaves in the bottom of a glass. Add ice and pour rum and cranberry juice on top. Add soda water and a mint garnish to complete the drink. The bright red of the cranberry and the green of the mint look like Christmas.

3. Peppermint Cosmo

The fresh flavor of peppermint combines with bold pomegranate flavor to make this cocktail a winner. This is a great beverage to sip at an intimate seasonal party for your closest friends. This cocktail is easy to make. Simply combine vodka, pomegranate juice and peppermint extract in a cocktail shaker. Give it a few shakes and strain into glasses. Garnish with peppermint wheels or candy canes for an extra festive touch.

4. Cranberry Sangria

Wine cocktails are a great way to celebrate the season at a family dinner. Make this light drink by combining red wine, cranberry juice, orange juice and sugar. Pour this mixture over fresh fruit of your choice. You could use oranges, whole cranberries or limes. Or you may even want to try using more exotic fruits such as star fruit. Refrigerate the mixture for several hours before enjoying.

5. Gingerbread Martini

The spicy and sweet notes of gingerbread are the perfect accents for this dessert cocktail. This is the best way to complete a delicious meal. Combine equal parts of vanilla rum, Irish cream liqueur and cinnamon schnapps. Add a dollop of vanilla ice cream and garnish with whipped cream and crushed gingerbread.
