Fashion Flashback: 100 Years Of The Suit

If there’s one outfit that every modern man should have in their wardrobe, it’s got to be a suit. Whether going full formal with shirt tie and boots, or dressed down with a t-shirt and trainers, a suit really can ‘suit’ any occasion (pardon the terrible pun).

But while the suit has been around in its modern form for at least the last 100 years, it has undergone a number of design changes over that same period, with a number of designers such as Giorgio Armani attempting to change the silhouette of the quintessential men’s outfit.

From the skinny slim fits of the 60s, to the brash, colourful, big collar jackets of the 70s, the suits adapts to the fashions and trends of the time (taking strong queues from pop culture), while retaining its key elements.

This infographic from UK men’s Fashion site Mr Style shows how the suit has changed over the past century, and includes style icons from each era that helped to set the trends of the day.
