4 Tips For Adopting A More Professional Style In Your Late Twenties

Now that your college days are likely over, or at least nearing an end, it’s time to adopt a more professional look as you enter the working world. While jeans, t-shirts, and yoga pants may have been OK for class, they definitely aren’t going to get you that dream job, or in the good graces of your boss.

If you want to be taken seriously in the working world it’s about more than your credentials and your abilities, your look counts as well. Here are a few ideas that will help you look more professional so you can get the job or impress the boss, and be on the fast track to success in no time.

Leave The Sex At The Door

While sex may sell in magazines, and women are wearing see through tops on the runway, this is not ideal office wear. Go into the office with a professional, modest, look, and you will get more attention for your working ability rather than your look.

This has nothing to do with sexism and everything to do with feeling confident and getting the job done in a working atmosphere. There is too thin of a line when it comes to sexual harassment in the workplace, so both sexes should work harder at their professional appearance.

Go For Well Kempt Hair

When it comes to professional looks, your hair matters as well. Depending on what type of work atmosphere you are going into you may want to go for a natural look, while for the most part it’s still OK to be professional and have fun hair.

The most important part of your well kempt hair is to make sure that it is clean, that you have a great stylist, and that it doesn’t look like you just woke up and came into work, after you evicted the rat or bird that was living in your hair!

Shoes Say A Lot

Don’t wear your tennis shoes to work unless it’s jeans day at work or you work at a gym. On the opposite side of the spectrum, you also don’t want to show up to work in stripper boots or heels that are three inches or higher.

While you may think most people don’t look at shoes as something that talks about a person’s character, you would be wrong. Why do you think they still make shoe shine kits?

Hygiene, Hygiene, Hygiene

Probably even more important than the rest of the reasons you need to adopt a more professional look to be successful, you need to work on great hygiene, which is about more than just showering, brushing your hair, and making sure you don’t smell offensive.

Your hygiene also revolves around making sure that you are wearing clean clothing, that looks good (no wrinkles, holes, or stains).
