Movie Review: Gods Of Egypt

Movie Review: Gods Of Egypt

So… I have to be honest, when I saw the trailer for Gods of Egypt I really didn’t want to watch it. All I saw was another historically washed concept of what Egypt used to be.  However, I’m really glad I took the time to open my mind and check it out for this review.  Initially I thought it was going to be a story of Moses or Pharaoh, but Gods of Egypt takes of on an Egyptian mythological adventure. Where we follow the journey of a mortal hero Bek [Brenton Thwaites] who undertakes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. In order to succeed, he must enlist the help of the powerful god Horus [Nikolaj Coster-Waldau] in an unlikely alliance against Set [Gerard Butler], the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict.

If you’re familiar with the story of Horus and Set then this may appeal to you a bit more, if you’re not familiar it may intrigue and make you want to learn a bit more about it. Either way, I was pleasantly surprised.  I will say my biggest gripe, aside from the lack of historical/cultural diversity, was that the movie had a bit too much CGI for my liking.  I think that’s just a personal preference because other movie goers didn’t seem to mind it, lol.
