The Right Time

The best time to shave your legs is a two or three minutes after you’ve gotten into the shower. This gives the hair enough time to become soft, which will make it easier to shave. That tugging or pulling you feel when you shave may be because you haven’t let the hair soften enough before shaving. Try shampooing and washing before you shave to give the hair more time to absorb moisture.

Shaving Cream

Use shaving cream whenever you shave. It might seem weird at first, but shaving with shaving cream helps the razor blade glide over your skin and also works to further soften the hair, making it easy to remove. You can substitute in a pinch with soap, shampoo, or conditioner, but they can also clog your razor. A clogged razor leads to pressing harder to get the hair and even razor burn.

Avoiding Razor Burn

Razor burn is a skin irritation caused by shaving. It starts as a dull red rash and can develop into red bumps at the base of the hair follicle. A dull razor is often the culprit, so be sure your razor is still sharp and not doing more harm than good. Razors with multiple blades help you prevent razor burn as well. If the razor burn does not go away, or you develop an ingrown hair you may need to see a Dermatology Surgery Center for more advice.

Shaving Technique

Your shaving technique can have a big impact on your legs. Most people naturally want to use long strokes going up the complete length of the leg, but you actually get a better shave if you use short strokes, rinsing the blade in between. This way the blade does not have a chance to get clogged during the strokes.

After shaving, be sure to keep your skin moisturized to help it glow and look its best. You can breathe easy when you pull out your flowy dresses and shorts because with the right razor, good technique, and a consistent routine, your legs will be ready to come out for the summer.
