6 Ways You Can Make A Positive Impact On The World In Your Own Special Way!
I think many of us would love to make a positive impact on the world, but we’re just not sure how we can. Often times when people think about helping their favorite causes or ways to make a difference they think about MONEY. The fact is you can make a difference in your own special way; whether it’s donating money, your time, or your influence… the key is to take positive action when you can. I’m still not where I would like to be financially but when I started my business I knew I wanted to give back, so with any new venture I do I always make sure I tie it to a worthy cause. Your Life After 25 has been involved with back to school drives, fundraising campaigns and much more.
We made sure to carry on that same sense of socially responsibility with The Pocket Sous Chef and now with my latest venture Ife Medow, I’ll be making sure I give back to an eco-friendly cause. World In Your Own Special Way!
Volunteer at a community garden – this is a great hands on approach you can take toward helping your local community. If you’re not sure of where to find a community garden near you, you can check out the communitygarden.org.
Build Homes For Families – When it comes to volunteering, I’m sure getting involved this way doesn’t always come to mind 1st. So many people need homes, that’s why I appreciate all the work that organizations that build homes for families in need do. In fact, Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company is actually set to donate a total of $2 million to support three important causes – health, home and hunger through their corporate giving campaign called Band Together. The nonprofits benefiting are from the campaign are Habitat for Humanity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Feeding America or Food Banks Canada.
Volunteer at an animal shelter – If you have a passion for helping animals, a great way to help and give back is checking out your local animal shelters. They’re often in need of a helping hand.
Donate old clothes to shelters- Many of us are fortunate enough to be able to buy new clothes or even have new clothes for our children. Whenever you do a major closet overhaul or your kids grow out of the old duds, consider taking those clothes to a shelter and making a donation. There are so many men, women and children in need of clothes. In fact, if you have suits and work attire that you don’t need or wear anymore those are always a great plus. Many homeless women and men who are looking for jobs don’t have access to professional work attire, and those tend to be donated less.
Find out if schools have children that are in need of school supplies – I have a lot of friends who are teachers and while some parents do bring in supplies at the beginning of the year, those supplies run out quickly. It’s not something we tend to think about, but many homeless or less fortunate children are going to school and these children don’t have supplies, coats, or even food. For some of these children, school lunch may be their only actual meal of the day. Because of this, a lot of supplies are actually coming out of teacher’s pockets. If there’s anything you can contribute to, this is a good area to do it. That’s another reason that Jewelers Mutual is helping support organizations like Feeding America or Food Banks Canada. You can “Band Together” with Jewelers Mutual to help decide how to disperse the record-breaking donation by voting for your choice of causes from July 11, 2016 at 11am CT – July 31, 2016 at 11pm CT. The cause that receives the most votes by the end of July will receive a $1 million donation from Jewelers Mutual. The runner-up will receive $700,000 and $300,000 will go to the third-place winner.
Share on social media – Nowadays, we ALL have social media accounts. That means we all have a voice! If there are any organizations or causes that you strongly believe in, use your voice to help promote the cause. Whether it’s a FB share, Tweet or Snap you’ll be helping bring awareness and promoting positive change in your own way.
As you can see, not every act of impact requires your money. A lot of changes can be made by just giving a bit of your time. Even something as simple as voting in Jewelers Mutual’s “Band Together”, you can help decide which cause will be awarded the most money. The causes they’ll be helping, once again, are St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Feeding America or Food Banks Canada. You can cast your vote here!
