How My Wing Woman Saves My Life, Sanity and Slay!

Get the 411 from another one of my favorite Wing Woman – visit www.mywingwoman.com. She’s sharing the love in 140 characters or less on Twitter @mywingwoman too! I received compensation for this blog post from Teva Women’s Health.

We live in a world that doesn’t often highlight the importance of having a wing woman or wing women.  I’ve been fortunate to have met some amazing women in my life and have a great group of wing women that I know I can call upon at any time.  I think society often prepares women for the idea of working hard to be super woman and aspiring to become someone’s wife and mother.  But it doesn’t tell you that along the way and even beyond those milestones, having solid friendships are what will get you through tough times. When I found out about the Teva Women’s Health “Wing Woman” campaign, I thought it would be a great chance to share a few ways a wing woman has pretty much saved my life!

So what exactly is a “Wing Woman”? A Wing Woman swoops in to save women from difficult situations and embarrassing moments by providing helpful life advice. She can be a friend, family member, or even a public figure. I mean, my wing women and I even had a “Lemonade Party” because Queen B gives us life, lol… but I digress.

Each wing woman I have in my life inspires and strengthens me in her own special way.  As women we have so many things that go on in our bodies, lives and minds that it helps to be able to speak about it with likeminded individuals.  The other day I was talking to a friend about how we’ve all been taught to grin and act like life is all in order, but to me your wing woman is who you can turn to and keep everything 100% real! My wing women have helped me through losing loved ones, depression, anxiety, relationship advice and so much more.  In fact, in my circle of friends the ladies with children call it a village.  They alternate taking each other’s kids so that each mother is able to get a much needed break and all the kids are growing up together.

I’ve had 6 special wing women in my life, 2 passed away recently both from cancer… and it was one of the most devastating years I’ve ever experienced.  But I was able to lean on my other wing women to help me get through the grieving period.  My wing women have been known to bring over a bottle of wine when I’m feeling down, bring medicine if I’m feeling sick, or just come veg out with me on a Saturday when we’re both not in the mood to deal with life lol.

Life is too short to go through it alone. And from losing some of the most important people to me, I definitely learned to appreciate and love the people that you have now while you can. Love the Wing Woman or Wing Women in your life and cherish them while you can!
