How Chevrolet and the NNPA Are Changing Lives Through The Discover the Unexpected Journalism Fellowship!

A couple of weeks ago we introduced you to “Discover The Unexpected With NNPA and Chevrolet’s Journalism Fellowship at Howard University!“. We discussed how the program by NNPA and all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is helping to launch the next generation of writers and social media experts to help tell good news stories from the African American community. As an African American woman this story really hit close to home. We all know the quote “History is written by the victors.” by Winston Churchill, but I’ve often found that in this day and age the quote ” History is written by the media” by Ramzi Haroun is a bit closer to our truth.

Through The Discover the Unexpected Journalism Fellowship, 8 African American students from Howard University were selected to drive an all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu for the summer to find compelling news stories. DTU Teams are using the technology in the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu to help gather and share their stories. Features like the built-in 4G-LTE Wi-Fi will make sure they are always connected and ready to report. Each DTU participant also receives mentorship from an NNPA newspaper, a $10K scholarship and a generous stipend. It’s truly the opportunity of a lifetime.

With all the great work these young fellows have been doing, I wanted to follow up and share some of the stories they have been covering. CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT THE #DISCOVERTHEUNEXPECTED STORIES. Some of the coverage includes; 1) Neal Henderson, who started an inner-city youth ice hockey team in Washington, DC. 2) Arnell Jones, a comic book pioneer from Detroit who worked with Marvel comics and Stan Lee 3) John Clark, the first African-American pizza factory owner in Chicago 4) Shelia Bright, an award-winning photographer from Atlanta. As you can see these young fellows have been making their rounds in their Chevrolet Malibu vehicles and capturing a wide variety of stories and moments. I honestly can’t wait to see what the future has in store for many of these great minds. If you would like to SEE MORE VIDEOS ABOUT THE DISCOVER THE UNEXPECTED JOURNALISM FELLOWSHIP CHECK OUT #DISCOVERTHEUNEXPECTED ON YOUTUBE.

Don’t forget to help spread the word about the program! The more youth we can inspire, the more positive change can be made.

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Chevy . The opinions and text are all mine.
