Reading Body Language: What She’s Trying to Tell You Without Words
Man’s professed mystery as to what makes women tick is often the fodder for gags and jokes. The cliché that says, “Women…can’t live with them, can’t live without them,” may not be true, but it is speaking to the insecurity that a lot of men feel about talking with women.
Women and men tend to communicate differently. Men, verbal animals, let words reveal their feelings and desires. Women, on the other hand, have developed a secretive form of communication called body language. In order to find out what a woman may be trying to tell you using only silent and obscure gestures, you need to know the body language code.
Watch Her Eyes
They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. If a woman holds eye-contact with you for more than a few seconds, it could mean she’s interested in conversing. If she immediately looks away, it could mean she’s either shy or isn’t interested. Repetition is can also be sign of interest. If a woman locks eyes on you more than once, that’s usually a green light welcoming your interest.
Women can also use eyeglasses to convey their feelings. Even though, according to one Utah eye surgeon, LASIK surgery is cheap, easy, and effective, many women will still wear false eyeglasses for extra body language flair. After a brief hello, removing her glasses for a clearer view of you is a definite sign of interest. And watch where her eyes go after the glasses have been discarded. If she studies your lips and other facial features, that’s a good sign.
Mind Her Posture
Observing the way a woman stands when she meets you can reveal a lot about her interest in getting to know you.
Women, in order to enhance their physical appeal, tend to stand tall when addressing a man they are interested in. If a woman slouches, stands awkwardly or makes an effort to cover herself up, that’s probably an indication of, at the least, a lack of interest or, at the worst, a sign that she is uncomfortable with the situation.
Other Body Language Signals
1. When a woman is attracted to a man, she will usually smile a lot and laugh at all of his jokes, even the bad ones.
2. A woman’s hair is an important conveyor of body language. If she begins to play with her hair while talking with you or twisting it nervously through her fingers, that’s a good sign she’s interested in you.
3. Psychologists use a term called “postural echo” when it’s apparent a woman is subconsciously copying and mirroring your gestures. If she is, it’s probably a sign that she’s attracted to you.
This list only touches the surface of all of the intricacies and coding of body language women use, either consciously or subconsciously, but it does touch on the major gestures.
Use the above list as a guideline in order to start recognizing the non-verbal signals women—and sometimes men—exhibit. Recognizing positive, welcoming signals as opposed to the negative “no thanks” gestures should greatly enhance your understanding of women.
