Tiny toes, little fingers, precious smiles. Is there anything about a baby that is not worth capturing in a photograph? Of course not! The question these days is not whether you should take pictures of your little one but rather how you should take pictures of them. With the rise of social media sites like Pinterest and Instagram, moms have nearly instant access to countless ideas and options. It is becoming more challenging to do anything that hasn’t been done by another mom, but in the spirit of rising to the challenge, read on for five fun ideas for unique baby pictures that you will treasure for years to come!
Bubbles, Bubbles, Everywhere!
Have you seen the pictures of first birthday bubble photo shoots? Those adorable shots of toddlers trying to pop the bubbles are just heart-melting. So how can you make this idea unique? Change it up! Do it when your baby is younger and has just learned how to track things with their eyes. If they can reach out already, why don’t you try making your own “unbreakable” bubbles and adding the color of your choice to the recipe? For more fun, you can dress your little one in all white so when the bubbles do eventually pop, you’re rewarded with a color splashed outfit!
Food Fight!
As your little one learns to eat, you will spend a lot of time cleaning up after them. What if, instead of sighing and getting the wipes or paper towels out, you ran and got your camera for a delightfully candid photo shoot? To make this even more fun, get someone else to man the camera and join in the food play! Your little one’s delight will shine through, and chances are, yours will too! Release your inner child and teach your baby how to thoroughly enjoy bath time while preserving the memories for the future.

…a doctor? An artist? If you’ve wondered what the future holds for your little darling, why stop there? Why not bring all the fun of dress up to bear in a photo shoot of what the future may hold? Gather some fun little props (think stethoscope and thermometer for a doctor, or a ruler, chalk, and chalkboard for a teacher) or go for the full effect and dress the little one up in an adorable baby Halloween costume! Live those dreams! For an added twist, as they grow and develop their own dreams, take pictures and compare them through the years!
It Takes a Village
They say it takes a village to raise a child, so why not pay homage to YOUR village with a fun little photo shoot with thoughtful mementos representing members of your family? Is your dad a pool shark? Include some billiard balls. Does your mom bake the best apple pie ever? Include a rolling pin and some granny smiths. Have fun with it!
Although it can be difficult to come up with something “new” to do, it’s almost always possible to think of a spin-off!
