In a world of chaos sometimes it’s fun taking a moment to watch shows that keep you laughing. I think the plus comes in when a show can remind you that your family isn’t the only crazy one. One Day At At Time does both those things, keeps you laughing and the crazy family is relatable.

Coming from a large family with a rich cultural background, I know exactly what it’s like to have everyone in your business and embarrassing you out of love. Elena is a growing teen stuck between being American, Cuban, and having her own identity. She’s being raised by a single mother who was formerly in the military. For me, I found all of this quite relatable. I’m half Nigerian and half Ghanaian but I was born in London and raised in Atlanta, GA. Talk about an identity crisis lol. There’s always a constant pull from each culture trying to make you choose where you belong. I also grew up with a single mother who later on married my stepdad that’s in the military. It’s almost like  legendary producer Norman Lear found a script about my life, lol ;).  If you’re a fan of hit shows like Sanford and Son, All in the Family, and The Jeffersons which are also done by Norman Lear, you’re in for a treat. The show has a lot of dynamic characters that bring different perspectives to the table. Of course, it’s hard not to fall in love with Abuelita.

America is full of so many different types of families, I’m always excited when shows like this are made. One Day At A Time will make for a great moment to share with your own family members. It may even spark some conversations over dinner and just serve as a way to come together. One Day at a Time is the perfect family comedy for the new year!
