Facing the Future Fearlessly: What You Can Do to Firm Your Neck and Chin

As you grow older, your skin gradually begins to lose its youthful firmness. This is often most noticeable around the neck and chin. You will probably begin to notice some sagging around your mid 40’s as the skin beneath your chin begins to loosen. Unfortunately, the aging process cannot be stopped, but there are ways in which the effects of aging can be reduced, or sometimes reversed. Many people look for solutions to firm a sagging neck or prevent a double chin, so what are the options?

Kybella Injections

Kybella is the brand name for deoxycholic acid, a form of bile salt produced in the human body. Its function is to emulsify different forms of fat so they cannot combine. This way, the fat is removed from the body as waste. Because of its significant ability to naturally destroy fat cells, research was conducted to test its ability to eliminate fat that builds up around the neck.

Kybella has since been approved by the FDA as a means of reducing submental fat (fat around the neck and chin). It is injected into the fatty areas under the chin and around the neck where it breaks down fat cells by destroying their membranes. Injections are usually administered at several sites and the whole procedure takes about 15 minutes. After the first treatment, you return to your cosmetic surgeon each month to have it repeated. After around six treatments you should see the desired results. If you want to find out more about removing fat with Kybella injections, check out  YMD Eye & Face.

ThermiTite Skin Tightening

ThermiTite is a non-invasive facial treatment that does not require either anesthesia or recovery time. It’s a safe and effective way to cosmetically enhance the features of the neck and chin. ThermiTite works by tightening and smoothing the skin’s texture, reducing jowls and improving the jawline. The technique utilizes cutting edge radiofrequency technology to enhance the appearance of facial skin. It is administered by a qualified cosmetic surgeon and takes between 10-60 minutes, depending on the area that is being treated. Prior to treatment, a mild numbing cream is applied to the skin to prevent any discomfort. You may feel a mild but manageable pinching or burning sensation that lasts only for a few moments. You may also experience minor redness afterwards but you should be able to immediately resume your usual daily activities. The results are usually noticeable within a week to two months following the procedure and will last up to two years. According to experts, adults between the age of 35-55 with some wrinkles and mild photoaging, respond best to ThermiTite treatment.

Neck and Chin Exercises

Can you really improve the skin tightness of your neck and chin with exercise? The answer is yes. Although you will have to work hard at it, exercise can go some way to tightening your skin and preventing turkey neck. Try these exercises every day.

Head Tilt Neck Rejuvenator

This exercise will help tighten the muscles in your neck and chin. Tilt you head back as far as you can then open your mouth as wide as you can and hold for a few seconds. Relax your mouth and tilt your head forward so that your chin is resting on your chest. Repeat ten times.

Cow Face

This yoga move is effective for adding definition to a sagging jawline. Part your lips slightly and relax your face. Push your lower jaw forward so your lower teeth protrude further than your upper teeth. Raise your right arm and turning your head to the left, look up to the ceiling. Hold for 15 seconds then repeat, alternating sides three times.

Neck Rolls

Stretch your neck as straight as you can then lower your chin down onto your chest. Slowly rotate your head, keeping your shoulders down, until you have completed a full circle. Rotate again in the opposite direction. Repeat five times each way, tilting your head back as far as you can and keeping your chin lowered at your chest and each shoulder.

There are two main muscles in the neck: the platysma and sternocleidomastoid. By performing these exercises you can tone them, which will help to pull your skin tighter, giving your neck and jawline a healthy and youthful appearance.
