4 Organizational Hacks that Can Save You Tons of Time During a Move

Let’s face it, we all hate moving. It’s nothing but inconvenience and a lot of work. Although moving is never easy, it doesn’t have to be a nightmare. It is possible to have a pain-free move, when done right. Here are some organizational hacks that can save you tons of time during a move.

Pack Items in Place

As often as you can, pack your belongings in their original locations. Instead of taking your clothes out of the drawers so you can pack them in boxes, leave them in their drawers. Simply remove the drawers from the dresser, and shrink-wrap around the drawer with the clothing still inside. Then, shrink-wrap around the empty dresser so it doesn’t get scratched or dinged during the move. When you get to your new home, simply remove the shrink wrap and slide the drawers into place. Use this trick for silverware trays, bathroom storage, toy bins, and any other small items that are stored in larger items.

Create Macro Items

Packing items in boxes works great for small things, but packing larger items, like mirrors and picture frames, can be tricky. Instead of carefully wrapping each individual picture frame, create a macro item of things that are similar in size. Lay a large blanket on the floor, followed by a picture frame. Then fold the blanket over the top of that picture frame, then place another picture frame on top. Continue weaving the blanket through layers of picture frames, and shrink wrap around the entire package when you’re done. Creating macro items helps save a lot of time during your move. Instead of having to unload ten individually wrapped frames, you only unload one.

Pack with Your New Home in Mind

It can be tempting to just throw things in boxes and plan to figure it all out later, but this choice can cost you a lot of time in the long run. Pack with the end in mind. Make a note of your new home’s floor plan, and figure out what you’ll store where. Number your closets, and pack boxes with only the specific things that will be stored in that closet. That way, when you start unpacking, you won’t have to run around putting things away in three different rooms. You’ll simply unload the entire box into that specific closet.

Know When to Call in Reinforcements

Moving can be overwhelming, but it’s never a good idea to take on more than you can handle. If you simply don’t have the time to devote to your move, there’s no shame in calling in reinforcements. If you do plan to hire a moving company, be sure to hire a reputable company that has is known for quality work, like Redondo Van & Storage. If you’re doing a long-distance move, be sure to use a company that offers door to door service so you get the help you need on both ends of your move.

Minimize the stress and time required for your next move by following these simple organizational hacks. While moving is definitely a time-consuming process, when done right, it’s always worth it in the end.
