Prohormones Vs. Steroids: The Battle Ends Here!

Prohormones are the precursor compounds of hormones that occur naturally in the human body. Steroids are compounds like testosterone and estrogen, which have their steroidal organic compound structure. Ever since the discovery of 1-AD by Patrick Arnold, prohormones have been overshadowing steroids. While most steroids are illegal in the USA, prohormones including Hydroxy Progestin are still legal in bodybuilding. In fact, the continuing research on these hormone precursors has kept the flame of discoveries and designs of novel and more user-friendly compounds alive.

Prohormones Vs. Steroids: The Battle Ends Here!

Why do we say “No” to steroidal supplements?

Steroids rightfully bring with them a sense of negativity. You must have already heard your friends and family talk about how steroid is not good for your health. You must have already gone through the hundreds of scholarly articles and blogs stating the harmful effects of steroids on the human body. From high blood pressure, hypogonadism, erectile dysfunction, and breast cancer, to osteoporosis, anemia, and endometriosis; the popular OTC anabolic steroids have deleterious side effects.

Are all steroidal supplements testosterone?

Almost all anabolic steroids are a form of testosterone or another. It is the primary male hormone in our body. Those who have been taking testosterone supplements for quite a while can experience strange symptoms like an increase in body hair, deepening of their voices, increased sex drive and a decrease in the size of their testicles. In short, the increase in the levels of the male hormone also increases the traits of masculinity (secondary characters) in men.

Why is using testosterone supplements by female bodybuilders rather bizarre?

Strange effects of testosterone supplements in women include growth of facial hair, chest hair, missing periods, cracking and deepening of their voices and severe acne. Since the level of male hormone suddenly increases in the female body, it directly affects the primary and secondary characters. That is a huge risk for women who want to conceive or are breastfeeding. In fact, some voice changes and hair changes are irreversible effects of increased testosterone levels in the body.

How is prohormone much better than testosterone?

Since prohormones do not contain any synthetic testosterone, they are much safer as compared to steroidal supplements. Prohormone’s advantages far outweigh the benefits of using conventional anabolic steroids. Since prohormones come in oral forms, they are much easier to administer as compared to anabolic steroids. Most of the DHEA and Hydroxy Progestin- based prohormones are both legal and easy to afford.

Are they natural too?

The most common way to increase testosterone levels in the body is by increasing the intake of DHEA, Vitamin D, magnesium, and zinc. While two of them are trace elements, one is a vitamin we need to produce skin pigments and bones on a daily basis. These three are components of our regular meals; while DHEA is a common constituent of most non-steroidal pro-hormone supplements.

Prohormones are science’s way to keep bodybuilding and lifting rewarding for professionals, who want to bulk up, lose fat and get cuts faster without experiencing the side effects of testosterone.
