There are those of us who crave novelty, intensity, variety and risk in our lives. Oftentimes just the thought of an exciting and meaningful challenge will have us packing for the event in no time. Yet, you may have never actually had such an adventure. Perhaps you’ve simply dreamt of traversing through the Amazon or the great Alaskan wilderness. If you feel the need for more thrill in your life, here are just a few ideas you should consider doing at least once in your life:

Ice Swimming

Ice swimming—as it may imply—involves swimming in the winter time, typically in an outdoor place. Generally, this is done at a lake or a pond where there’s a hole in the ice that’s big enough to jump in.

Increasing in popularity, it is considered to be very exhilarating and invigorating. In fact, many claim that ice swimming can help reduce stress, improve the immune system and help rheumatism. Regardless of your motives for jumping in, it will be an experience never to be forgotten.

One of the most popular locations for ice swimming is Finland where have been enjoying this sport for decades. Some places even have heated mats to walk on from a sauna to the dipping area. This is to prevent your warm feet from attaching to ice and snow. Other popular places for ice swimming are The English Channel, Tyumen in Russia, and the Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina.

Skydiving

Skydiving has always been known as an adventurous sport. There are also areas in the world that will challenge even the bravest of personalities and offer the best of views. One of the most renowned places to skydive is Everest (Nepal). Actually, it is known as the world’s most elite skydiving enterprise. Divers can actually jump from a plane at 29,500 feet and slowly float back to their base camp below.

The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai is another popular place. The jump offers a spectacular view of the archipelago (island chains) of United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai is a “must see soon” as it is said that the islands are sinking into the sea.

Not surprisingly, Fox Glacier in New Zealand is fast becoming the hotspot for skydiving. The area delivers an array of drop zones from ground zero for extreme sports to an -mile-long glacier located in the remote Westland Tai Poutini National Park.

Motorcycle Adventures

One of the most adventurous and long-lasting thrills is a motorcycle trip. Likewise, the sport is for all levels of fitness and adventurous thrill seekers (from mild to wild). There are motorcycle trips that are quite daring and not for the faint of heart. However, safety is encourage in order to avoid a motorcycle accident.

One of the daring motorcycle trips is the world’s most dangerous road located in Bolivia (La Carretera de los Yungas). The road actually claims an average of 20 vehicles each year. The road trip is about 70 kilometers long. It starts at 4700 meters above sea level and ends at 1500 meters above sea level.

On the state line of Tennessee and North Carolina is the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Cap. The winding stretch on US 129 is one of the most popular for motorcyclist. For 11 miles there are 318 curves that twist and turn. Take note, this trek is only for the skilled driver.

In September, motorcyclists get together for the Motorcycle Remembrance Ride (Trail of Tears) to honor Native Americans who were driven from their land. Motorcyclists ride the historic trail from Chattanooga, TN, to Waterloo, AL on Highway 72.

Hot Air Balloons

This sport is not as daring as some but it is definitely worth the adventure. In truth, there is no greater experience than hovering over a scenic landscape with breathtaking views. Some of the most popular places to ride a hot-air balloon are the romantic backdrops of the Maasai Mara National Reserve (Kenya), the Safaris of Serengeti National Park (Tanzania) and the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia, Turkey.

Whatever adventure you end up choosing, just make sure to document. Take pictures and, if you can, video. It doesn’t necessarily need to end up on social media, but it will definitely be something that you will want to look back on in the years to come.
