Common Wedding Planning Mistakes to Avoid

Planning a wedding can be difficult to say the least. You have probably heard about the stories of women turning into bridezillas when they start planning. It’s of little surprise. From the guest list to the entertainment, there are so many things that need to be arranged. Plus, there are always a few unexpected surprises that crop up along the way! Keeping that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the common wedding planning mistakes you need to avoid.

Hiring a friend instead of a professional

This is one of the biggest mistakes that people make when planning a wedding. Yes, your friend may have taken some lovely shots when he or she went on holiday recently, but this doesn’t mean they are going to do your wedding photographs justice. Wedding photography is a different matter entirely. You need someone who knows about lighting, technology, and the best angles. You also need someone who is skilled at capturing those natural, unguarded moments. And that’s without even mentioning the editing side of things! You don’t get a second chance to have your wedding photographs taken, so you really shouldn’t risk it by leaving this task to someone with no experience. Instead, you need a professional such as Vittore Buzzi photographer. The same applies when it comes to your entertainment. Of course, if you know someone who sings for a living, great. But don’t task one of your mates with being a DJ, assuming that it’s easy. Being a DJ involves a lot more than picking a few songs. They need to flow together and mix well. Plus, the DJ is responsible for getting the crowd in the mood and creating the right atmosphere. Don’t cut corners with things like this, as they play such a pivotal role when it comes to the overall feel of your wedding.

Not leaving enough time on your wedding day for your hair and makeup

Ideally, you want to be the last person to get your makeup and hair done on your wedding morning. This is so your makeup and hairdo are both fresh for when you walk down the aisle. Nonetheless, this also means that you run the risk of running out of time. This is why a trial run is so important. You can time how long it is going to take for you and all of your bridesmaids to get beautified. Make sure you leave a little bit of extra time on top of this, as there’s no guarantee that everything is going to run smoothly. After all, you may have a stray hair that doesn’t want to stay in place, or your eyes may start watering when your eyeliner is applied.

Telling everyone about your wedding

We get it; you’re excited! However, you should avoid telling everyone about your wedding day. After all, the more people that know about it, the more people that are going to have opinions on your choices. This can turn into a bit of a nightmare, as everyone starts telling you what they do and don’t like, even if you didn’t ask them about it. Plus, one of the best things about getting married is being able to surprise your guests and wow them with everything you have planned. After all, people aren’t going to be as impressed by your choices if they already know what you are doing.

Picking your guests too early

A lot of people make the mistake of putting their guest list together as soon as their wedding is booked. This is fine if you’re wedding is taking place within the next six months. However, if your wedding is not set for another two years, you should avoid even thinking about your guest list just yet. After all, you never know what could happen in between now and the date your invitations are sent out by. You may meet a best friend within the next few months for all you know, and surely you will end up wanting them at your wedding over someone else. But if you have already told people who is going to be invited, you have made life very difficult for yourself.

Sending out save the dates too soon

One of the biggest save the date mistakes that people make is sending them out too soon. You’re probably eager to tell everyone about your special day, but sending your save the dates too early can cause a number of issues. You could end up with the issue that was mentioned in the previous section, i.e. you could want to change your guest list. Not only this, but sending them too far in advance could cause people to forget about it. After all, if someone was to send you a save the date for an event in two year’s time, you’d probably forget all about it by the time the invitations are sent, right? By then, you could have made other plans by accident! You don’t want this to happen on your wedding date.

Getting attached certain types of flowers

If you book your florist in advance, i.e. a year before your wedding day, he or she will only be able to guess what type of flowers are going to be available for your wedding and within your price range. This means that you may not get exactly what you had hoped for. The fresh blooms you had in mind may not be available. This is why it is important to make sure you do not get attached to specific flower types. Instead, think about shapes and colours when it comes to your flowers to ensure you are not disappointed.

Blowing your fashion budget on just the dress

This is a mistake that a lot of brides make. Hopefully, you have already set aside some money for your groom’s suit, and the bridesmaid gowns and best man’s suit if you are indeed buying them. Nonetheless, when it comes to purchasing your dress, don’t only think about the cost of the gown itself. It’s likely that you will face a few other charges as well. You will probably want to adorn the dress with jewellery and/or hair accessories. Not only this, but you will need to purchase a pair of shoes and undergarments. Plus, if you are buying a dress from overseas, you will have shipping and potentially tax to pay for too, and that’s without even mentioning the cost of any alterations.

Sweating the small stuff

Planning a wedding can be stressful to say the least. However, we often bring more stress on ourselves than is necessary. This is because we get wrapped up in the finer details, i.e. the details that don’t really matter. If your invitations are a slightly different colour or size than you expected, it’s not the end of the world, is it? Don’t worry about the things that don’t matter. Instead, focus on having fun and enjoying yourself. That’s what a wedding is all about! No one is going to know that the starter being served wasn’t your first choice or that you couldn’t get the flowers you wanted for your flower girl’s hair.

Making plans before you have set a budget

This error could cause huge problems for you. Would you ever shop without glancing at the price tags? No one would head to the checkout with their fingers crossed, unless they were rich, of course, in which case they probably wouldn’t even have their fingers crossed to begin with! If you don’t put together a thorough budget first, you’re going to find that you need to cut corners with parts of your wedding, be it your dress or the number of people you can invite. Before you even begin looking at venues, catering, and dresses, sit down and work out how much you can comfortably afford. You can then allocate parts of your budget to different aspects of your wedding.

Not supplying enough information

No one likes to feel confused. The last thing you want is for your guests to feel like they don’t have a clue where to be or when. This is why it is a good idea to include as much information as possible when you send out your invites. A lot of people like to include an information sheet alongside their invites. This will include the itinerary, directions, and details regarding hotels in the area for those who would like to stay the night.

Hopefully, you now have a better understanding regarding some of the most common mistakes that people make when planning their wedding. If you can avoid the errors that have been mentioned above, you can give yourself the best chance of ensuring that everything runs smoothly. From trialling your hair and makeup so you can time it properly to hiring professionals for photography and entertainment, there are many factors that come together to make sure your big day goes as planned.
