5 Tips to Help You Find the Perfect Student Accommodation

Now that the university has sent you a confirmation letter, how do you find the perfect student accommodation? As a soon-to-be college student, this question probably scares you. On one hand, it should. Flat-hunting can be tedious and time-consuming. On the other hand, it shouldn’t. You can still find a flat that suits your needs. But to do so, you need to know the following five things.

5 Tips to Help You Find the Perfect Student Accommodation

1. Start Searching Now

Remember, everyone – not just you – wants the perfect student accommodation. So to get the best places and beat the competition, start your search as soon you can. If possible, do so immediately after the university sends you a confirmation letter.

2. Know What You Want

Never start your search without knowing your priorities. So ask: How long do you want to commute daily? Do you want an on-site launderette?

Also, do you want to live close to or among other students? And most importantly, how much can you afford to spend on rent each month? As you ask yourself these and more questions and be specific. Then, start the search.

3. Ask Around

Once you know what you want, ask family, friends, and other students for help. They may know some great areas where you can live or, at least, into which you can look. And even if they don’t, they can offer excellent flat-hunting tips or go on the hunt with you.

4. Do Your Homework

Read as many area guides and watch as many neighborhood videos as you possibly can. Know all the available accommodation options, taking particular note of a flat’s location. As a general rule, the closer a flat is to the heart of an urban area, the more you’ll pay for it.

If you must live in the city centre, finding affordable accommodation tailor-made for students might take a little more research, but is still possible. Although, some students who are prepared to spend more might prefer to opt for private accommodation, such as that provided by Collegiate who offer Sheffield student accommodation (among other cities). This is the perfect option for those who don’t want to live in typical student halls.

However, if you don’t mind living outside of town and city centers, by all means, go ahead and live in the outskirts of an urban area. However, ensure you can still commute quickly back into town whenever necessary. This means living in neighborhoods well-connected to the closest city or town.

Also, consider the flat’s safety. Is it located in a safe neighbourhood? Does it have CCTV surveillance and security staff around the clock? How do you gain access into it? Do you use a digital key card?

Finally, consider the neighbourhood’s social atmosphere – an important factor to any student. After all the essays, term-papers, and exams, you still need to relax and have fun with friends. You will, therefore, want to live in an area having many social areas and social events.

5. Look Around

Whatever you do, don’t settle for the first flat you come across, no matter how attractive it may seem. Look around. Something better may be just around the corner.

As hard as flat-hunting may be for a student, you can still find the perfect accommodation for you. Make sure that you follow the tips in this article and don’t cut corners if you don’t want to end up in a space that doesn’t fit your needs and lifestyle.
