Are You Harming Your Health By Taking Too Much Medication?

Today, I want to talk about something that a friend made me think about recently. How many of you will take medication quite regularly for different things? Now, I’m not talking about prescription meds, I’m talking more about general painkillers, antacids, the type of things you can buy anywhere. If you have a headache or a sore tummy, you find a pill of some kind and take it to feel better, right? It’s seen as a normal thing that helps us stay in good health, so what’s the problem?

This is where the discussion with my friend comes in as they were telling me about someone they know that has almost no stomach lining anymore because she kept taking medication for period pains. It was a small side effect of a regular drugstore painkiller that’s now caused permanent health issues for you. It got me thinking; are we all doing more damage than good by taking too much medication for minor issues? So, I thought I’d make a quick article talking about the dangers of self-medicating, and provide a few natural alternatives for common issues as well.

The Health Dangers Of Too Much Medication

Right off the bat, we’ve got the main issue I just spoke about; side effects. A painkiller may help you feel less pain in one area of your body, but it can also cause problems somewhere else. Your stomach is usually the place where most of these issues occur as that’s where the pills end up going. Especially if you take medicine on an empty stomach all the time.

Then, you have the serious problem of addiction. It’s so easy to become addicted to something that helps you feel better. You have a sore tummy after every meal, so you start taking an antacid all the time. Pretty soon, you become dependent on them and feel sick when you’ve not taken one. Before you know it, you’re traveling down the tricky road of addiction recovery. This is scarily more common than you may think, and it’s one of the main reasons I think we should all try and look for natural alternatives instead of opting for medication.

Natural Remedies For Common Problems

Of course, the only reason we take medicine is because we want to feel better. So, what other options are there that aren’t harmful to our health?

Well, loads of stomach problems can be cured by drinking different types of tea. Earl Grey, ginger, or peppermint tea are excellent at solving digestive issues as an alternative to antacid medication.

Then, when you have persistent headaches or aches and pains, you could go down the more holistic route with things like acupuncture to target inflammation and reduce pain. I often just find that sleep is the best cure for all ailments. Close your eyes and drift off, and more often than not you wake up fine!

Naturally, some serious health problems require prescription medication. Often, there’s no way around this, and it can help your health if you do take the meds. This article is simply here to make you think twice about self-medicating and taking loads of painkillers for small things like headaches or stomach pain. In the long run, it’s better for your health if you look at natural alternatives.
