In an ideal relationship, you’re going to see eye to eye on a lot of the important things. Having shared values and goals can be a sign of a really great relationship. But, they aren’t always essential. You can still move forward and make a relationship work when you’re not on the same page about everything. If you want to be together, and you’re happy most of the time, then you can move past your issues. However, when it seems as if you both want different things, that can seem tough. More often than not, you’re going to have to work extra hard to stay on track. But if you’re willing to do that, you’ll get there. So let’s take a look at what you need to do.

 

  1. Talk Openly & Honestly

If you’re going to have a change of making this work, then you’re going to want to ensure that you talk to each other. Be honest and open about what you’re feeling and what you want. If either of you really opposes what the other wants, then you have a problem. And it may be what you both need to walk about. But if you love each other and you want to make it work, then choosing to be honest and come up with a solution is always a good idea.

Then, you need to make sure that you actually work to get through the issues. You’ll want to learn to compromise, and focus on finding common ground that keeps you together. You may also want to start compromising on the things that are causing problems, particularly if they don’t always matter to you.

You’ll then want to focus on the most important things to you. If it’s each other, then nothing else should matter. If you can both agree to put each other first, or the things you believe to be important work with each other’s choices, then you’re going to be okay. Just be sure that you respect each other’s wishes, and you shouldn’t have any issues.

 

  1. Make A Decision Sooner Rather Than Later

But most importantly of all, you have to be sure that you’re going to come to a solution quickly. While you won’t want to rush anything, you can’t drag things out forever. If you do both know that sometimes isn’t right, and things may not be working, you need to work it out as soon as you can. If one of you wants to move on, then it’s more important that you work through things so that you can both move forward and be happy. It will be most painful for you both if you don’t.
