Making A Difference In The World
When we are children we always have a vision that as we grow older we will get our dream job and we will be able to make a huge difference in the world, but life doesn’t always work out the way we planned and we can end up struggling to make ends meet in a job which means nothing. However this isn’t the only way you can make a positive impact on the world. There are ways in everyday life that you can be a positive part of society and make an impact, and here are some for you to try.
-
Be kind
Kindness is something which can’t be replaced and it really is something which is a huge privilege for anyone in our lives. Kindness costs nothing but it can be worth the world, and a kind word to someone in the bus or in your workplace today might make their day and even make them feel valued as a human being if they didn’t already. Whatever you do in your life always to be the kindest you can be.
-
Empathize with people
Empathy isn’t the same as understanding, but it means that we can see things from another persons perspective and we can grasp how they must be feeling in a situation. If you are a boss for example and one of your workers has severe anxiety, many might brush it off and try to force the worker to be more confident, but you don’t have to. Empathy is about understanding that this person is suffering and being able to put measures in place to make life easier for them. Maybe they need a quiet workspace away from everyone else, or maybe they simply need a room they can escape to when things get too tough. Showing empathy and being able to be kind will have a massive impact on others.
-
Nurture your relationships
The personal relationships we have with our partner and our family are the single most important parts of our life. If you take these for granted you will regret it later in life when you have no one to keep you company and support you. Don’t take your family for granted, make an effort to see them and spend quality time together. It will work out great for all of you.
-
Share your knowledge
If you have a skill which you are mastering or you are qualified in something which is difficult to grasp, don’t keep the knowledge to yourself. You could make a big difference to many people’s lives by adding a class onto a site like Skillshare or offering tutoring to people who need help with certain subjects. Sharing your knowledge can be powerful and it can make a big difference to a lot of people.
-
Don’t take friends for granted
Friends are a big part of your life as well as family and they can be just as dependent on you as you are on them. Always make time for a chat with friends even if just by text, because having that network of people behind you in life can make a big difference in your confidence and how you are able to approach a situation.
-
Be a good example
If you have kids or you are the leader of a team, it is important that you lead by example and set a good one for everyone who follows you. You want to show that it is good to be kind, to look after nature and also to have an open mind. Make sure they know that you are always thinking of others before yourself and hopefully your behaviour will get them to improve theirs.
-
Enjoy every second
Life is a big mess of ups and downs, and it can often feel as if the downs outweigh the ups and it can be stressful to try and stay positive in your life. However if you are unhappy in any aspect of your life you need to try and change it. Get a new job, leave a relationship or move somewhere new. Life is all about enjoying yourself and you need to be sure you can enjoy yourself this year.
-
Recycle food scraps
Giving back to the planet can be a huge impact on the world, and it can also save you a lot of worry about the environment and the climate. Think about using scraps of vegetables to grow new ones. You can use a lettuce heart to grow lettuce, thyme twigs to make a plant and even garlic bulbs can be directly planted in the ground. Living off your own land and recycling food is a great way to make an impact on the world and make you feel better about yourself.
-
Stop using plastic straws
Plastic straws are something which is quite an issue at the moment, and with the way or oceans are full of plastic it is not going to be long before we see many of the fish and creatures in the ocean under serious threat. If you want to avoid a situation like that infamous plastic straw in a turtle video, you need to skip the straw or use paper.
-
Support education
Education is one of the biggest parts of society and everyone in the world needs a good education to get the job they want and to be successful in life. But a lot of people around the world don’t let girls study at all, and there are many reasons to support girls education. You can make a change by either donating or raising awareness and you could be part of the finding for a new school for the future doctors, lawyers, vets and leaders of our world. Supporting a charity or organisation in general is always a good idea and it can make a big difference to you and to the world as a whole.
