4 Ways To Look After Your Lawn
There’s no denying that a lawn is a perfect addition to any home. It complements a home’s exterior and adds plenty of curb appeal. But, the harsh reality of some people’s houses is that their lawns are more neglected than maintained.
As a result, some lawns resemble rainforests. They are overgrown, covered in unsightly weeds, and generally let the rest of the immediate neighborhood down. It’s likely you are here because your lawn has seen better days.
The good news is there’s plenty of ways to revive your lackluster lawn and significantly improve your home’s exterior appearance. Take a look at these four ways to look after your garden for some inspiration:
1. Start with a clean slate
If your lawn is mostly weed and is quite patchy, it makes sense to remove it all and start again. There are two ways you can approach this: re-seeding and re-turfing. The first option, re-seeding, involves leveling the ground and sprinkling grass seeds along the top.
The thing is, you can only re-seed your lawn at certain times of the year. Plus, you have to somehow protect the seeds from getting picked by birds! Thankfully, an easier alternative to re-seeding is laying new grass on your topsoil.
One example is to have something like zoysia grass sod laid on your leveled lawn. The beauty of such an option is that your lawn is “ready to go” once it’s all laid. You don’t have to wait for it to grow.
2. Remove weeds as they appear
The sad truth about lawn maintenance is that some people only do anything about weeds growing on their lawns when they appear in various places! As you can imagine, it can take several hours, even days to remove vast quantities of weeds.
A better idea is to remove weeds as soon as they appear on your lawn. The process will only take a few minutes away from your day, and it’s quick and easy to sort out.
3. Mow your lawn regularly
You don’t want your grass to get out of hand by only mowing it once or twice a year. That’s why you should mow your lawn on a regular basis during the warmer months of the year. If you work during the week, you could perhaps schedule that task during the weekend.
An advantage of regular mowing is the whole process will be quick to complete as you won’t need to spend so much time stopping and emptying your lawnmower’s grass box, for example.
4. Maintain your gardening equipment
It doesn’t matter whether you use a cheap electric lawnmower or have a range of professional petrol-powered gardening tools. Whatever tools you use to look after your lawn, you should ensure they are always fully maintained.
The trouble with lackluster gardening equipment maintenance is that your tools could end up causing damage to your lawn. Plus, they could also stop functioning altogether, leaving you with an expensive repair bill or needing to buy new tools.
