Here is a little gem for a quiz question or to amaze your friends! Did you know that Pilosebaceous Units are responsible for those whiteheads, blackheads and other acne blemishes that show up on your face and elsewhere? No, neither did I! Apparently these Pilosebaceous Units (you say it like pie-low-sea-bay-shussî) is just a medical way of describing a unit made up of three things, a hair follicle that contains an oil producing gland and a hair).

Of course this bit of trivia is not much help on its own, but when you think about where blemishes are prone to show up, how many of us have ever had them on the palms of our hands or the soles of our feet? These Pilosebaceous units occur most frequently, all over the face and chest and the neck too so it is hardly surprising that most blemishes are found in these areas. The reason why people do not get spots and whiteheads in these areas is that there are no Pilosebaceous units at all in these areas ñ only horror movie creatures get hairs on the palms of their hands!

Blackheads and Whiteheads are a very common problem and unfortunately, not confined to teen years as they can show up anytime. Hormonal changes in our monthly cycle can set them off, as can hormone levels for women going through the menopause.

These two types of blemish are really different forms of the same thing. They are both caused when a mixture of dead skin cells and other particles, get mixed with sebum (our skin’s natural oil) and clog up a pore. The difference is that blackheads do not have a top on them and so the contents of the pore gets to come into contact with the air and turns black by oxidation ñ just like when you cut a potato or an apple and leave it open to the air and it gets discoloured! Whiteheads on the other hand have a thin covering over the top which prevents the contents from oxidizing so it stays white or yellowish in color! (Pretty gross, right?). Anyway, if you want another bit of trivia, blackheads are technically known as open comedones and whiteheads are closed comedones.

I am often asked what is the best method of whiteheads treatment or how to get rid of blackheads, so here are some tips if you suffer from these blemishes and need some help to get back your clear complexion.

Exfoliate Regularly
This is important because the process of exfoliating removes those dead skin cells on the surface of the skin which might otherwise come loose by themselves and then end up blocking the pores. You might be a bit hesitant about using an exfoliator if you have sensitive skin, but the trick is to use a really gentle product. Look for one with tiny micro beads that will work without causing any abrasion. You absolutely want to avoid causing any irritation or breaking the skin surface which could cause even more trouble!

Concentrate on your problem areas and use the exfoliator as directed after cleansing your face as normal. The best way is to use gentle, circular motions, applying the product with just your fingertips. If you feel like splashing out, there are battery operated exfoliating tools available, probably the best known of which is from Clarisonic and these are good because you can use them in the shower too.
Exfoliating not only helps to stop the pores from becoming blocked and removes a food source for acne bacteria, but it also helps to improve the complexion by sloughing off the cells that cause our skin to look dull, pale, tired and lifeless.

Get Rid of Acne Causing Bacteria
Getting rid of bacteria, does not just involve use of an antibacterial cleanser. It also involves paying really close attention to hygiene. Change your pillowcase, your towels and washcloth frequently ñ there is no point going to all that trouble to cleanse your skin and then using a towel with bacteria on it!
Importantly, donít overdo your cleansing routine ñ if you do, you will just dry out your skin too much and what happens then is that the sebaceous glands that produce the oil will be ëtrickedí into making even more oil, because their main purpose is to ensure that skin remains properly hydrated.

Use The Right Skin Care and Cosmetic Products
The single, most important thing to ensure when you choose any skin care, or make up product (if you want to avoid whiteheads and blackheads, that is), is to check the labelling for the term non-comedogenic (another term for todayís trivia collection) and this just means that the product will not block your pores and cause the comedones we call whiteheads and blackheads!

As we get older, we often find that we have less time to ourselves than we might have been able to enjoy in our younger years. You might find yourself in a particularly demanding job, or looking after young children full-time. Whatever the reason, it can suddenly become much more difficult to take time out, yet it is still just as important to do this, if not more so. Here are just a few ways in which you can make time for yourself, even within a hectic daily routine.

One of the best ways to take time out is to do so in small chunks. If you have a spare ten minute slot to yourself, then make the most of it and do something which you enjoy. You might just play an online game of Foxy Bingo, or read a chapter of your book, but even these simple activities can be a good way to clear your head and help your feel refreshed. Avoid working during your commute or on your days off to give yourself a break every so often.

It can also be worth taking time out by booking a short break away. Often, we might intend to spend out evenings and weekends relaxing, but it is far too easy to get caught up in the mountain of tasks and chores that need to be done. Going away for a few days can be a good way to avoid this, and really take time out from your usual routine. Ideally, you may want to think about booking yourself into a spa for a spot of absolute indulgence. However, if you’re on a budget, then why not arrange to visit friends? Simply being in a house which is not your own can often be key in helping you to relax.

Why do some women who go to the gym see fast results while others don’t? Why is it that some women find it easy to tone their body while others can’t seem to burn off the stubborn fat?

It has a lot to do with how you do your workouts, and not just by how much time you spend at the gym. I’m here to offer you some advice on how to make your workouts better. If you follow the tips I outline below, you should achieve much faster results with your workout routine.

1. Do resistance training – Cardio is a great way to lose weight, but it may not be enough to get rid of stubborn fat and tone your body. For that you need to also do resistance training, whether in the form of weight lifting or bodyweight exercises.

Resistance training helps to sculpt your body into attractive proportions as it builds muscle tissue. In addition, it is an excellent way to boost your metabolism and accelerate fat burning.

2. Work on the major muscle groups – When you do resistance training you’re trying to engage muscle tissue. This increases your metabolic rate. The more muscle tissue you work on, the bigger metabolic benefit you get out of it. It’s as simple as that.

This is why you need to spend more time and effort doing exercises for your bigger muscles such as your legs, chest, and back. This will lead to the excellent results.

3. Don’t worry too much about your abs – I know that you may be thinking about that nasty belly fat you’re unable to get rid of. You’re probably spending a lot of time on crunches and sit-ups. You need to stop worrying about your abs and stop spending so much time doing abdominal exercises. The real way to burn off belly fat doesn’t require a lot of those.

You can’t burn off fat from just your abs. It’s called spot reduction and your body doesn’t work in this way. You simply need to burn off body fat and as much of it as you can. Your belly will get leaner as well in this way. The right exercises to burn belly fat are not crunches or sit-ups, but those that employ a lot of muscle tissue under heavy load. Try those and your abs will flatten out quickly.

4. Do intense cardio – Don’t judge your cardio workout by the length, but by the quality. You can burn more calories in an intense 30 minute workout than in an easy 45 minute one. You need to do hard cardio in order to see results.

5. Don’t waste precious gym time – Just because you spend an hour at the gym does not mean you got an hour’s worth of work. A lot of people treat the gym as a social club and spend a lot of time chatting instead of training. You need to use your time at the gym to actually workout. This is what you’re there for.

If you take your workout and diet routine seriously and include the tips above in it, you should see your body get more toned and sexy quickly.

This post brought to you by Chili’s Grill & Bar. All opinions are 100% mine.

Summertime is near and it’s time to breakout the summer dresses, wedges and go for a girls night out! I’ve personally been excited to get out and about with some friends, because hey, when it’s cold all you want to do is cuddle up with a cup of cocoa in sweats in a tee, or maybe that’s just me. But, in the spirit of breaking out of my chill mode, I’ve been shopping for some HOT summer finds and I’m ready to show them off.

Recently I decided to do a movie and dinner with friends and the we agreed to go to Chili’s, which I happen to LOVE!, before the movie. Although I’d seen the Avengers already, I definitely wanted to watch it again since Iron Man and Black Widow are two of my favorite super heroes, and if you read my review you’ll know the movie was AWESOME! Anyway dinner was what you can expect with a group of ladies; gossip and talking about men and the food was good too.

Chili’s is always great for a their baby back ribs, BUT for me I like to get the Triple Play and then do the $20 dinner for 2, so if you have a group of six you can get 3 dinners and an appertizer to share. I ALWAYS love to get either a Strawberry Margarita or Sangrita Swirl, however to my surprise they have a FABULOUS new drink called the CoronaRita at Chili’s and I just HAD to try it! The Coronarita is a Jose Cuervo Tequila Margarita with Corona, so delish! It’s fabulous when paired with the Ribs or Chicken Chrispers. I also loved how it comes with the Corona bottle attached, such a nifty idea. I’ll definitely be adding it to my list of go-to drinks for Chilis! I Can’t wait for my next girl’s/friends night out… by the way the movie was AWESOME again!

Don’t forget “You must be 21 years or older to drink alcoholic beverages and as always, please remember to drink responsibly”

Are you wondering how to keep a job? Regardless of the economic times, hanging onto your job is important – finding another source of income can be very inconvenient as well as challenging. One of the biggest challenges is finding a job when you don’t have one. Having a job makes life much easier with the employment you have and for the future employment you may seek.

The key to keeping your job is to think like an owner or manager. Think about what it is they would like to see in an employee. Also, think about what it is they would rather not experience from their employees. Your job, within reason, is to do what pleases them and to refrain from doing what it is they don’t have appreciation for. Here is one suggested activity that can please owners and managers.

Think – especially when you’re off the job.

As an associate of mine used to say, some employees “shut off the brain when they walk out the door.” For many it’s true, and it harms their ability to solve problems and be more productive at work. I believe if you’re turning off your thinking cap when you head out the door, then you probably don’t have it turned on very well to begin with. And, you probably don’t have much interest in or commitment to what you’re doing. That’s not the right attitude or approach.

Why hang onto an employee who has limited interest? Why be committed to retain an employee who isn’t committed to the job or employer they have?

A lack of interest and commitment will be noticed by those responsible for managing personnel, and they’re much more likely to dismiss such an individual if they need to reduce staff or if they have someone else waiting in the wings to hire. And, good managers are constantly recruiting, sometimes in very subtle ways, even when they don’t have an immediate need for additional employees. Know how to keep a job – don’t give them any excuse to let you go.

One way to show interest and commitment is to keep thinking about work-related problems and solutions, even when you’re not at work. This isn’t to say that you become entirely focused on work, to the exclusion of family and friends, but that you use unproductive time wisely by putting it towards thinking and problem solving that can be productive once you return to work. Consider the following opportunities to think about work-related problems and arrive at solutions:

-taking a shower

-commuting

-washing dishes

-folding clothes

-vacuuming

-dressing

Your brain can work fast, and it can multi-task, so sometimes it only takes a few minutes or even just a few moments for an idea to surface that will address challenges that you and others face at work. You can even let your subconscious mind work on the problem, and when a potential solution is found, it will pop into your conscious mind. But none of this will happen if you don’t have an interest or commitment to problem solving once you leave your place of employment.

Be someone who knows how to keep a job. Be someone who thinks at work as well as after hours. This makes you a better and more valuable player in the eyes of those who are responsible for making decisions about staffing, promotion and layoffs.

One of his nicknames is Mr. Manager, and he has lots of experience managing many an individual into and out of his employ. He appreciates employees who add value to his business interests. One important value is someone who can think, even when it’s outside of normal business hours.
In a nice twist this season takes place in Emily Maynard’s hometown, which I’m sure is because she has her daughter Ricki to consider. As we all know Emily has been through a whirlwind of past relationships from the tragedy with her first love and Ricki’s dad to the public breakup with past Bachelor Brad Womack… I know she as well as the rest of us are ready to put that ALL behind us and find her some NEW long lasting love.

The first Bachelor we meet is Sean, a 28 year old insurance agent from TX, and David the songwriter from NY followed behind. Oh goodness the cornballs Jackson the male model. Arie, the race car driver is HOT and definitely made Emily exhale… Emily’s crop of men are quite strange but there were a few that stuck out. Alejandro is SEXY, Arie is FINE, Chris and Nate are super cute and then there was Kalon which I would have to assume is our resident season douchebag from money, he slightly confirmed that with his helicopter entrance, LOL…

And the 1st Impression Rose goes to DOUG, the father who read his son’s note about him…

after that the rest were goners, lol

The Cocktail Party Seemed Very Short Tonight but…

it looks like we’ll ne seeing more from

Chris, Brent, Kalon, Arie, Charlie, Jef, Nate, Sean, Joe, Kyle,

Aaron, Alejandro, John, Alessandro, Michael, Stevie, Tony, AND Travis

All I can say is this is going to be one INTERESTING season, lol… Emily has a lot of different characters in her group of men but I think there is a knight amongst them, I hope so. OH and who knew that guy was serious about having 6 kids… aww
