7 Great Ideas For Celebrating Halloween With Children

Halloween is coming up fast, how are you and your children going to celebrate? Of course there is the usual trick-or-treating event but there are tons of other things you can do with your children in order to celebrate Halloween. Here are some ideas and examples to get you started:

Bobbing for Apples

Bobbing for apples is definitely a fall-time activity since apples are usually ripe and ready to fall off the trees by this time in the year. However, if you don’t want your children swallowing each other’s spit you may want to change out the water for each child.

Make-Your-Own-Haunted-House

Instead of going to an actual haunted house where you have to pay to get scared, help your children create their own haunted house, haunted room, or haunted basement. You can use boxes to hide gooey things and have kids reach inside to guess what they are touching. You can use lighted displays to light up scary masks or fury monster hands. After you are done you can invite the neighbors over to enjoy your haunted masterpiece.

Donut Eating Contest

Tie some donuts to a stick and hold it out so that your kids can reach them with their mouths. Start the contest and see who can eat their donut first! You can invite neighbors and friends to join in on the fun as well. Do an adult game then mix it up and do kids vs. parents.

Decorating Cookies

Get a few Halloween type cookie cutters, make some sugar cookie dough, and buy or make the frosting and you are well on your way to a fun afternoon. Your kids will love cutting out the different bat, ghost, pumpkin and other Halloween shapes almost as much as they love slathering them up with frosting and drenching them in sprinkles. Be sure to cover the table because this activity will most likely be a messy one.

Making Spooky Treats

Now it is your turn to make some fun and spooky treats for your kids. You can make banana ghosts, orange pumpkins, mummy cookies, spider cake, monster pretzel fingers, and so much more. Check out Pinterest for more spooky Halloween treat ideas.

Daytime Corn Mazes

Going through a corn maze at night is probably not the best idea if you have younger children. But going through the daytime corn mazes can be a lot of fun as well.

Decorate the House

Have your kids help you to decorate the house in fall colors and spooky Halloween decorations. You can use fall colored paper to make paper chains, you can use fall leaves and string them through thread to decorate the outside porch. You can also use black paper to cut out cats and bats to decorate the house with.

Throw a Party

What better way to celebrate Halloween with your kids then to throw a neighborhood party? You can decorate, make treats, and show them through your homemade haunted house. Finish the party by watching a Halloween movie and you will be a true success. Scary movies are usually more popular around Halloween time but if you have a young audience you may consider movies like “Casper,” “The Adventures of Icabod and Mr. Toad,” “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” etc.
