ABOUT TIME – Movie Review

When I first heard of the film ABOUT TIME I knew I had to go see it because it’s from the same people who made Notting Hill, Love Actually AND Four Weddings And A Funeral… those are some of my fave movies and make this Brit miss home lol. Another reason I wanted to see the movie was because of the lovely Rachel McAdams, from The NoteBook to The Vow, I’ve never been failed by her… my one reservation was that it was another time travel movie with her, but I’m really glad I went into this film with an open mind because ABOUT TIME is a movie that stands on it’s own.

ABOUT TIME takes us on a journey where Tim Lake, played by Domhnall Gleeson, discovers he can travel in time. Up until the age 21 Tim believes his life is quite hum drum and could never imagine what’s in store for him. This all changes the night after another one of Tim’s family New Year parties, Tim’s father (played by Bill Nighy) tells him that the men in the family have always had the ability to travel through time. However, with time travel there are a few stipulations, Tim can’t change history, but he can change what happens and has happened in his own life.

With this knowledge and power, Tim moves from the Cornwall coast to London to train as a lawyer. Eventually, Tim meets the beautiful but insecure Mary, played by Rachel McAdams. We get to go on Tim’s journey through time, love, regret and growth. At one point I forgot I was just watching the film and truly felt like I was experiencing things with him.

ABOUT TIME will have you laughing, crying and also provokes some thought. At the end of the day, you’ll learn to appreciate your life and all it’s nuances. Definitely a good date night flick or girls night movie.
