Cirque du Soleil: Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour Review
When I heard about the Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour I knew I wanted to check it out but I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. As a long time fan of ‘The King of Pop” I get a little sensitive about things pertaining to his legacy. I feel like it has to be protected since he’s longer around to speak for himself. With that said I think that the Cirque du Soleil’s artistic ode to Michael Jackson’s life was fitting, touching and well executed.
The show takes us through a journey of Michael Jackson’s life from when he was a young boy till the man we all grew to love. Using his music, quotes, pictures, dancing and more the show is able to appeal to all your senses and evoke full emotion from the crowd. There were many times I felt like crying and many moments where the audience was overtaken by feelings of nostalgia.
We were treated to the acrobatic you’re used to from other Cirque du Soleil shows as well as amazing musical arrangements. The show made sure to include some of Michael’s biggest hits; Smooth Criminal, Dangerous, Thriller, They Don’t Care About Us, Scream and many more.
The costuming was exquisite and the set changes were a site to see, I can honestly say that the only thing that could have made this show any better is if Michael Jackson would have been there himself… that thought was where it becomes bittersweet. The show almost made me feel like at some point he would make an appearance, odd I know… but that’s how well they were able to capture the essence of Michael Jackson in this epic show. I definitely recommend checking it out if you’re a fan, after all this is the closest we’ll get to being able to see his music performed in a concert setting that makes sense.
