Plan A Summer Vacation or Stay-cation On A Budget Using the Kaiku® Visa® Prepaid Card!

Summer is here, and it’s a great time to relax a bit or recover from the first half of the year. As you all know, I’m constantly looking for ways to keep my budget in check so I can continue with my savings plans. This year, I’ve made a goal to get a new car… so that means I have to tighten the purse strings a bit and exercise discipline. With that being said, just because you’re on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t live a little. The best thing about the Kaiku® Visa® Prepaid Card, part of the Visa Clear Prepaid program, is that it allows you to set a spending goal. You HAVE to stick to it or add more funds. That having to add more funds part, may make you think twice if it’s not for something in your spending plan. I’ll walk you through my thoughts and the process of using my Kaiku® Visa® Prepaid Card to plan my mini summer break. So what’s the first step to vacationing on a budget? Set your spending goal.
Step 1: Set A Spending Goal.
For my spending goal, I’m setting aside $150 to see what exactly I can do within that budget. I’ll be using my prepaid card to budget and pay for my mini summer break. I love how easy it is to manage my money. Which means, while I’m relaxing, the only thing I’ll have to think about is having fun!
Step 2: Get Creative With Your Budget.
As a bargainista, I’m all for coupons and voucher sites. So… I’m checking out getaways, cabins, spa deals, and more on a few of my fave sites to maximize my spending power. For me, I just wanted to do a day of relaxation in Atlanta and then plan other activities around it. And relaxation screams SPA treatments!
I was able to find a luxury spa package for $110 which includes; a Coconut- or goat-milk bath, exfoliating foot scrub, warm mud wrap, foot massage, tea or wine, and more… that spells BLISS for me! After that, I can follow it up with a variety of options… I found deals I could choose from like $6 for a movie ticket, $15 for a basketball game, $16 for Rock Climbing, $18 for Zip lining – the sky is the limit! Since a Spa day will usually have me tuckered out, I’m thinking either the basketball game or a movie. Some people don’t like to go to the movies by themselves, but I happen to love going when everyone is at work.
At this point I’ve spent about $128. Next we make sure to account for $3 for the monthly maintenance fee, which would be waived if you deposit at least $750 each month.
Anyway, now I have $22 left to spend on food and any extras that may come up.
Step 3. How Does Your Kaiku® Visa® Prepaid Card Work?
Getting your card is very easy, just visit kaiku.com and select the Get a Card button on the upper right hand side. Once you’re there you have the option to select the color of your card.
Next, enter your personal information including name, zip code, mobile phone, email, date of birth and social security card information. You will also be asked to provide a password and select a security question. *Note: A credit check will not be run.*
You will receive your personalized Kaiku card in 7-10 business days. Once you receive your card in the mail, call (855) 285-2458 or go online to kaiku.com/activate to activate. You will likely be asked for the card number, the security code on the back and to select a pin to activate the card.
Once you’ve activated your card, you can load it 3 ways: by cash at any Visa Readylink location in your area (note: Using a Visa Readylink location to load cash is the quickest way to load your card. Fees to load the card vary by location and range from $2.95 – $4.95), by check with Kaiku’s mobile app which can take 7-10 business days, or by transferring funds directly from your bank account which can take 2-4 business days.

At the end of the day, I know that I feel better knowing that I can enjoy my mini break with the type of protection that the Visa Clear Prepaid program provides me. That includes; easy to understand fee plans, no overdrafts, deposit or share insurance to protect my money, AND Visa’s Zero Liability fraud protection if my card is lost or stolen.
