Top Watched Videos in 2014

Catching an amazing video (and watching it go viral) requires a combination of luck, skill, and a great camera. In 2014, there were plenty of viral videos that set the Internet on fire. You don’t have to be Kim Kardashian to break the Internet, however. Just keep a Polaroid Cube on you wherever you go, and you’re sure to catch some amazing footage, however weird, wacky, or beautiful. For inspiration, here are the top watched videos in 2014, starting with the fifth most-watched clip.

“Bend Test”

For some reason, people like to see what it takes to break something expensive. The iPhone 6 fell prey to this experimentation, as people performed tests on the phone to see how flexible the phone was and how far it could bend before snapping. The video was wildly popular, with most people watching it out of curiosity and/or boredom. The video was conducted by the Youtube channel Unbox Therapy and received over 67 million views as people watched to see if the rumors about the iPhone 6 bending inside peoples’ back pockets were true. The results were that the phone did, in fact, bend, and the video, which was surprisingly stressful to watch (much in the same way that watching someone burn $400 dollars would be), was immediately popular.

“The Voice”

The Voice, a popular American singing show where people audition to see whether or not they’re talented enough to be coached by famous singers, had an Italian spinoff that received a surprising guest in 2014. A 25-year-old nun, Suor Cristina Scuccia, from Milano’s Orsolina Della Sacra Famiglia, sang a dynamo version of Alicia Keys’ “No One” that thrilled the judges, audiences, and just about everyone on the Internet. The video received 77 million views.

Tatiana Pilieva’s “First Kiss”

This video (made by Tatiana Pilieva) features 20 people who have never met and these perfect strangers are told to kiss one another. While this concept might seem a little strange, the video was actually very endearing and told us a lot about how humanity, in all its awkwardness, can be painfully sweet and charming. Judging from the more than 108 million views it received, everyone else loved it too.

“Winner Stays” by Nike

Nike’s viral video features a soccer team full of young kids, who then transform into famous soccer players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, Zlatan Ibrahimović, and more. The field itself transforms into a professional soccer arena, and at some point, things get really crazy and the Hulk shows up to serve as the goalie. It’s a wild video that actually ends up being an advertisement for Nike cleats, but the clip is so entertaining that, whether you’re a Nike fan or not, you couldn’t help but watch and re-watch.

Spider Dog

A combination of both adorable and terrifying, this video featured a wiener dog that was wearing a giant, mutant spider costume. Created by SA Wardega, the dog had eight legs attached to him that would wobble as though he were a giant spider crawling.  Naturally, he horrified everyone he came into contact with, yet had no idea what was going on and why these humans were running away from him at top speed, screaming. The mutant spider dog was not without his props either; he was given a fake dead body, giant webs, and mummified body parts to fulfill his act as a deadly tarantula. With over 150 million views, this video was given the year’s top spot, proving that humans love watching other humans get pranked (though we’re not too keen on it ourselves).

Who says you can’t capture the next viral clip, just like these top watched videos in 2014? The Polaroid Cube will help you seize the moment and make a great video that will light up the Internet. Whether you’re into scaring people, breaking expensive things, or singing your heart out, the Cube will be with you every step of the way.
