3 Tips for Hosting a Backyard Party

Warmer weather is on its way and you feel like planning a backyard party for all of your friends. But you don’t want it to be a gathering of a few friends who just hang around. Rather, you want a party that’s fun, exciting, and won’t be forgotten anytime soon by all who attend. What you need to do is take advantage of your outdoor space. Use props, lights, games, and excellent cocktails to bring everyone together, leaving no one out of the festivities.

Create a Party Atmosphere With Lights

It’s not a party without fun and funky lights to set the tone. You can always fall back on the standby of stringing white lights in a line or netting pattern, but why not kick it up a notch with themed lights like ones from Christmas Lights Etc.? If you’re feeling like bringing a bit of Florida to your back yard, put up a few lighted pink flamingos, palm trees, crabs and even an alligator. These are made from durable rope lights that last for years. If the rope light version of the palm tree isn’t enough, go with the 3-D version for a stronger illusion of a real tree.

Use the lights as centerpieces for your decorations and add themed elements around them to bring the atmosphere together. For example: set up the palm trees either in a cluster or spread around the room and set them coconuts next to them. Alternatively put the trees next to a punch bowl that’s full of a drink with a coconut flavor base.

Serving Trendy and Traditional Cocktails

There’s a reason why some cocktails go out of style but never disappear, and that’s primarily because they’re excellent. But you don’t want to bore your guests with the same old, same old, either. Bring in a combination of old and new cocktail recipes for your guests to sip. There are plenty of vintage cocktail recipes on the Internet that are a mouse-click away. Look to the Tipsy Bartender for the latest in funky cocktails that are easy to prepare while blowing your party guests out of the water. If you’re going with a particular theme, search for recipes that evoke the location through interesting flavor combinations.

Bring on the Games and Have Some Fun

Everyone still has a child inside of them no matter how old they are. Give them the opportunity to let that child loose with games that are geared towards an adult while retaining the fun of childhood. Use a game of spin the bottle to choose a person to play the donkey in a game of “pin the tail on the donkey.” Be sure to use tape instead of a pin to avoid hurting the “donkey.”

The sky is the limit when it comes to putting on a backyard party. Lights, whether they’re string or shaped, play a large role in setting the atmosphere for the evening. Use them as a backdrop for all the activities you plan, the kind of drinks you serve, and the type of entertainment.
