VICE on HBO: Student Debt- The High Cost Of Wanting A College Education

As many of you know, I didn’t go to college but it wasn’t something that I didn’t once consider.  My parents are very big on education, being the only one of my siblings that didn’t go to college was tough.  But I had to do what was right for for me. This week VICE on HBO is covering Student Debt. This is something that many Americans are battling. Tune in for the show tonight,  June 24 at 11 p.m. on HBO! And no worries if you can’t watch it tonight, it will still be available on HBO NOW and HBO GO as well.

Americans currently owe $1.3 trillion in student debt, a total second only to home mortgages. The rise in student loan borrowing is tied to skyrocketing tuition rates, which are up 226% since 1980. Gianna Toboni reports from America’s college campuses on how a spigot of easy money from the federal government is jacking up the cost of higher education and even threatening the country’s international competitiveness.

It’s really disheartening to see how much of a gap is being forged between us all based on education.  Education should be affordable, being able to better yourself should be an option for everyone. I’m glad Vice on HBO is choosing to shed more light on this growing problem. Our youth and our future is in a really tough place, as parents or future parents this is something we need to consider for them.  And if you’re wanting to go to school this student debt information is for you too.
