Clean Start: What We All Forget When Trying for a Second Chance

Here you are, after the storm. You may have gone through a horrid divorce, perhaps you are back on cigarettes, or alcohol, after having sworn them off for good, or maybe re-gained weight after years of positive progress. Life is full of ups and downs and it can be hard when you feel like you have to start all over. No matter how many failures you may experience throughout the years, life will continue to go on. You can always get up and try again and you should! You owe it to yourself to give it one more chance. Here are common things people forget when thinking about picking up the pieces after a failure and moving forward.

Second Chances are Usually Easier than the First

You’ve become quite knowledgeable after a failure whether you believe it or not. You have seen the mistake first-hand and know what it looks like, what triggers it, and may even be able to recognize who brings it along. Now you know shortcuts and ways to avoid mistakes and will definitely catch up at a quicker pace, too. Trying something a second time will never be as time-consuming as the first time you did something new.

Don’t Fear Failure
Before a failure we become judgmental of those who have failed. We tend to see failure as a huge obstacle and the people who have gone through it as victims. When you try again for the same goal, failure is no longer enigmatic, but just another challenge. Now you know what it looks and feels like and are more in control than ever to work against it.

Stand Your Ground
When we fail, we sometimes think we can never believe in ourselves, or others, ever again. But nothing could be further from the truth. People crash and burn all the time and no one can predict when things will go wrong. Don’t give up or dwell in the failure or relapse. Positive thinking can work miracles, and when you really believe in your abilities and have a more optimistic attitude, you’ll achieve what you want to. Try meditation or some kind of daily thought that can perk you up and remind you want you’ve overcome. Give yourself time to adjust and to work up to a second chance.

Don’t Go it Alone

With any of the above scenarios, you’re going to need help. Many of us tend to forget to call on friends and professionals when you feel like you are floundering. Getting help from some outside source is the perfect way to motivate you and help you through the rough patches. Addicts might need a Malibu Drug Rehab or professional facility to help them through, while a new divorcee might require a sympathetic ear every now and then. When you find failure in your life, try to look for help in many different areas of your life. A support network can catch you if you start to slip, and give you the boost needed to get through a second chance.
Thomas Edison is credited with saying, about the completion of the first light bulb, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” How can you ever become wise in life unless you seriously mess something up and then learn how to fix it? How could have Edison perfected his craft if he had chosen to quit? Model your life after the light bulb experiment and work on it consistently. Don’t deviate from your goal. Expect the unexpected.
It is easy to forget our capabilities during the dark hours of sadness. But there is a light at the end of all things. All you need is the motivation to go at it again.
