5 Things You Need To See in Lanzarote

The thought of jetting off to an island for a week is always tempting. Maybe you’ve already got your Lanzarote holidays booked, or maybe you’re just dreaming about flying away. However far into holiday planning you are, you can always do with a little more inspiration, so here are our top five Lanzarote attractions.

See Manrique’s works of art

César Manrique and Lanzarote go hand in hand – it’s impossible to mention one without the other. The island was a major source of inspiration for Manrique, and his sculptures are celebrated by locals and visitors alike for their significant contribution to Lanzarote’s landscape.

A visit to the César Manrique foundation, which was once his home, reveals more about the artist’s commitment to the environment and an insider look at his unique approach to home design. The building itself is a work of art which Manrique constructed around five volcano bubbles, and also contains a collection of contemporary art collated by Manrique.

Papagayo beach

What kind of must-see list would this be without a recommendation for sunbathing? Slip into your brand new holiday swimsuit, slather yourself in sun cream and hit the beach! Papagayo is a particularly popular because of its white sands, unusual shell-like shape, and emerald coloured sea.

Explore a volcanic tunnel

Descend into Lanzarote’s Green Caves and you will find one of the longest volcanic tunnels in the world. Once used as a place of refuge during attacks and bad weather, this intricate cave system has been carefully transformed into a tourist attraction, while leaving its natural beauty intact. Regular tours of around an hour run through the cave and give you the chance to see a side to Lanzarote that has nothing to do with sunshine!

See a natural phenomenon

Lanzarote’s volcanic landscape has resulted in many beautiful sites of natural phenomena. Among them is the Green Lagoon, an unearthly pool of water which is actually part of the Atlantic Ocean. The distinct colour of the water is caused by accumulated algae at the bottom of the sunken crater, which despite common myths, isn’t toxic.

La Francesa beach

Most travellers come to Lanzarote for the beaches, and La Francesa is another favourite. Nearly four times the size of Papgayo, this beach has idyllic yellow sands and a spectacular view of the natural stone cliffs of Famara. Perfect for relaxing and working on your holiday glow.

Lanazarote is an island full of stunning natural beauty, long stretches of beach and crystal waters. So why not give into temptation, and explore this unique island.
