Fine Dining: How to Treat Yourself After a Long, Hard Day’s Work

Enjoying a delicious meal is a great way to treat yourself well at the end of a long day. When you’ve already had a long, hard day at work, however, the last thing some people might want to do is cook, while other people find it relaxing. While some people enjoy going to a fine restaurant after work, others want to go home, kick off their shoes and get out of uncomfortable clothing. Regardless of whether you want to cook or don’t, if you don’t want to go to a restaurant after work, here are four ways to treat yourself well after a long, hard day at work.

1. Meal Prep Services

If you actually enjoy cooking your own gourmet meals but don’t want to do all the shopping or chopping and dicing, there are a wide variety of services that will send you partially prepared gourmet meals. Green Chef offers high-quality organic ingredients, while Blue Apron specializes in locally sourced ingredients, but both offer delicious, partially prepared gourmet meals delivered right to your door.

2. Fruit, Cheese, Crackers, Meats and Wine

You don’t have to cook or have food delivered to enjoy a fine repast at the end of a long day. Put together a simple plate of fruits, meats and cheeses and pair it with a delicious bottle of wine from a winery like Chankaska Winery. If you happen to have a patio or deck with a great view and the weather is nice, this would be a great time to sit out on the patio or terrace and enjoy the view and the evening’s ambiance.

3. Set the Table

Part of the fine dining experience includes linens, fine china and crystal and heavy cutlery. Don’t save all of your best dining ware for only when you have company. Regardless of whether you are serving yourself the best gourmet meal or a simple meal of grilled cheese sandwiches, serve it on a beautifully appointed table and use all of your best accoutrements.

4. Delivery Services

While your favorite fine dining establishment may not offer delivery service, there a number of app-based services that are cropping up across the country. Some apps like Grub Hub or Door Dash offer delivery from establishments that offer more basic fare, but if you live in a major city and appreciate great cuisine, you might try Caviar. Postmates also tends to offer more basic fare, but also deliver from a few more upscale establishments as well, depending on where you live.

Fine dining doesn’t always have to mean going to a restaurant or enjoying the most gourmet meals. You can serve yourself a delicious steak burger and fries from your favorite restaurant on bone china with sterling flatware. The point is simply to treat yourself well. After all, you work hard every day, so take some time to appreciate yourself!
