Second Marriage? Here Are Some Top Tips on Planning Your Wedding

A lot of people think that planning their second wedding is going to be a lot easier. After all, they have done it all before, so surely it will be a lot more straightforward this time around. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. You can find yourself with somewhat of a moral dilemma. How different should your second wedding be from your first? Should you do things low-key because you have already been married? What if it’s your partner’s first marriage – how do you make it special for them?

It doesn’t matter if you have been married before

Let’s get things clear; it does not matter whether you have been married before. This mere fact should not influence your wedding in any shape or form. After all, your current partner is the only one who really matters, right? So, if you want to have a wedding that is bigger, better, and more fabulous than the first, go for it. You don’t need to dull down the occasion because of the past; having a big wedding the first time around doesn’t mean you don’t qualify for a second celebration.

Make sure you do things differently

While you may love the colour scheme you had for your first wedding or the venue it was held at, you should try to do things differently. Why would you want your upcoming wedding to remind you of the past? Choose a reception venue that is different from where you celebrated your first wedding. Why not have your wedding abroad? If you and your partner met on holiday or had a special vacation somewhere, an overseas wedding could be perfect, and it is a great way to make it different to your first wedding.

It is also important to add little, personal elements to the wedding that are unique to you and your partner. There are so many different ways you can do this. Here are some suggestions:

  • Have a wedding song written for you both – Nowadays, a lot of wedding singers and bands offer songwriting services, meaning you can have a unique song created for your first dance. This is one of the most beautiful ways to add your own personal touch to your special day.
  • Go for a unique pair of wedding rings – Most couples opt for plain, metal wedding bands. While there is nothing wrong with this, if you and your partner aren’t the subtle types, why go for such a muted style? Wedding rings are arguably the most significant symbol of love, so choosing something that is different and unique to you both is really special. Wooden wedding rings are a great choice because they are totally unexpected. Plus, wood has a beautiful meaning; it symbolizes longevity, deep roots, and strength. What better way to represent your marriage?
  • Blend your favorite things – There are so many fun ways to blend you and your partner’s favorite things. For example, you could wrap your flowers in pages from their favorite book if you are having a vintage style wedding.
  • Write your own vows Writing your own vows is an amazing way to add a personal touch to any wedding. Show your partner how much they mean to you by sharing some touching words about your relationship and your commitment to them.

Should you have a gift list if you have been married before?

This is a dilemma a lot of people ponder over when they are getting married for the second time, especially if their partner has not been married previously. Just because you have gotten wedding gifts from people before does not mean you have to abolish the idea altogether. Of course, common sense needs to come into play a little bit; if your previous marriage was recently, don’t send out an extremely expensive guest list to everyone! Overall, however, it is completely up to you. There is no right or wrong answer; if someone doesn’t want to buy you a gift, they probably won’t, and if someone does want to buy you a gift, they will. Simply leave it in your guests’ hands if you don’t want to make a decision.

Getting married second time around can be just as exciting and fabulous as the first, if not more so! Don’t let your previous wedding get in the way of your special day. Have the wedding of dreams, but make sure it isn’t identical to your first, and add some personal touches, as every wedding should have them!
