Flying through the sky in a private airplane is a dream for many people. For those that would like to become a pilot, professionally or for fun, becoming a licensed pilot will be a necessity and requirement. While becoming a private pilot can be challenging, there are four tips and steps that can be followed that will help anyone to become a private pilot and successfully pass all examinations.

Meet Basic Requirements

In order to qualify for your pilot’s license, you will first need to pass the basic requirements. The FAA today requires that all people be at least 17 years old, be able to read and speak English, and be able to pass a medical exam. This will require a full examination and the receipt of an aviation medical certificate.

Find a Flight School

While you do not necessarily have to go through a formal program, it would be very advantageous to start the process by going through a flight school. A top-flight school, such as the Institute of Aviation and Parkland College, can be a great option. The school will be able to help with all of the classroom and in-flight training and education necessary.

Fly Frequently

Another tip that you will need to follow in order to qualify for your private pilot’s license is to fly frequently. In order to fly as a pilot, you will need to learn all of the necessary maneuvers, including takeoff, landing, turns, and climbs. You will also need to meet the FAA minimum for hours before you can be licensed. Today, the FAA will require you to have at least 40 hours of time in the air, of which at least half are with an instructor and 10 are by yourself.

Pass the Examinations

Finally, after you have finished your necessary flight times, you will have to pass the final examinations. The examinations will include both practical exams in the air with an instructor as well as written exams. It is important that you properly prepare for both, as the requirements for passing can be tough. Once you have passed the examination, you will qualify for your license.

Becoming a private pilot is a dream for many people that enjoy flying in the air. For those that would like to be a private pilot, the process of becoming one can be challenging. Yet, you can do it with just a little bit of learning and passion.
