Many events in life can cause added stress for you. They can cause you to lose sleep and become ill. Here a just a few of those events and methods for reducing the amount of stress you experience.

Moving

Having to pack everything you own and transport to a new home is not only stressful, but exhausting. Being organized is your best defense. Have a plan in place of what needs to be done to accomplish this task. Get enough boxes and label them. You may even want to have more boxes on hand than you really think you will need. You might find that certain boxes are heavier than you would like. Clean out items that you don’t need prior to packing. This will reduce the amount of stuff that will have to be moved. Ask for help. You might even want to hire a moving company, like Bekins Van Lines Inc, if you are moving a long distance.

Changing Jobs

Starting a new job is exciting, but also stressful. Ask if you can take a tour of your new work place. Introduce yourself to your new coworkers before your first day. Then on your first day you will at least see some familiar faces. Know what the expectations are for the job ahead of time. Make sure to get a good night sleep the day before. Be prepared and try to get there a little early on your first day. Take some time to center yourself before going into the building. Meaning relax, take a deep breath, or mediate if that helps you. Everyone is nervous on their first days. No one expects you to know everything and everyone as soon as you walk in the door. Just be yourself and remember to breath.

Getting Married

Just planning a wedding can be stressful. The amount of life changes involved with getting married can be phenomenal. As with anything, remember to take some time for yourself. Make sure to schedule in some downtime prior to the big day. This may mean that you go to the spa, or spend a day relaxing with some friends. Plan ahead for any life changes that may be occurring. If you are just moving in together, decide how that is going to be accomplished ahead of time. If you are changing your name, know what forms will need to be filled out in advance. Decide as a couple if you are going to merge your finances and get that process started. Make sure that you are on the same page when it comes to big life decisions, such as having kids.

Death of a Spouse

This is something that most people dread and rank as the most stressful event possible. In order to deal with this traumatic loss, make sure to surround yourself with a support structure. You will need people to lean on during this time of grieving. Make sure to continue to take care of yourself. If you find yourself needing extra help, consider seeking counseling or join a support group. No one knows better what you are going through than someone who has gone through it too. When you are ready, clear out some of your spouse’s things from your home. You want to remember and honor them, but you also need to start moving on with your life. Your spouse would want you to be happy.

Coping with a stressful event is difficult. Try these techniques for dealing with these types of events.
