Are you using your kitchen to full effect? Do you find it frustrating when the time comes to prepare dinner every evening?  If so, this could be a sign that you are committing a common kitchen design mistake. Or, perhaps you don’t have the right appliances that you need? With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the common errors you could be making with your kitchen.

Poor ventilation

Poor ventilation can be a nightmare in any kitchen. After all, you don’t want to smell the fish you have cooked in every room of the house. This happens when you do not have adequate ventilation in your kitchen. There are a number of ways to combat this, including adding a window near your kitchen and investing in a range hood to let the air from cooking circulate.

Using poor quality kitchen items

This does not mean that you have to spend your money on expensive kitchen items, but it does mean that you need quality. There is nothing worse than food sticking to a pan or your mixer falling apart as soon as it comes into contact with the food you need to mix.

Failing to read reviews before you buy

One of the biggest mistakes that people make with their kitchen is buying appliances without conducting the necessary amount of research. They end up with an appliance on their hands that is of a poor quality or is not fit for purpose. All it takes is a few extra minutes of your time. There are plenty of great resources available online, which give you insight into the likes of the best microwaves and the best ceramic frying pans of 2018. This gives you some great insight into what to expect from your new kitchen product, helping you to make the best choice.

Poor lighting

This is a mistake that most homeowners are guilty of making when it comes to their kitchen. If you do not have sufficient lighting, not only are you going to have a kitchen that has an unwelcoming atmosphere, but you will struggle to prepare meals efficiently too. This is why it is a good idea to add direct lighting to all working areas so you can carry out all kitchen tasks efficiently.

Wasting storage space

Last but not least, are you wasting storage space? A lot of people feel that they do not have enough storage space in the kitchen for all of their belongings. However, more often than not this is because they are not using the space they do have efficiently. If this sounds familiar, think about all of the storage spaces you have at present, and whether they are serving their purpose. You can also hang the likes of pots and pans on the wall to make more space.

If you are committing any of the mistakes that have been mentioned above, use the tips suggested to make changes sooner rather than later. You will be surprised by how much of a difference this can make.
