4 Simple Activities That Can Keep Your Kids—and You—Entertained on a Rainy Day
You wake up to the pitter patter of rain hitting the roof of your home, and you already know that it’s going to be an indoor day for you and the kids. Anyone with kids knows that when children are pent up inside all day, it can lead to some wild behavior. It’s best to keep everyone entertained. However, that can be difficult. Here are some simple and inexpensive activities that can keep your kids—and you—entertained on a rainy day.
Get Creative
This is a good time to enjoy creative pursuits. Get out the crayons or markers and let the kids express themselves on paper. You can even get in on the fun, too. If you want to get a little more messy, you break out the finger paint and glitter too. If you want something a little more unique, you can find all sorts of kid-friendly crafts online. Just be sure to contain the creativity to one location, and don’t forget to put down newspapers or tarps to pick up spills.

Have a Movie Day
Not every day has to be jam packed with activities. This is the perfect day to pop some popcorn and catch up on some of the best movies on Netflix you have been too busy to enjoy or re-watch your old favorites. Let everyone choose one movie and take turns marathoning them.
Everyone can stay in comfortable pajamas, and build a pillow fort or a pile of cushions to relax in. You can order a pizza for dinner and make some of your family’s favorite movie snacks. Movies are a great way to bond with your family when you can’t go out and do anything.
Cook Together
Often, family dinners end up a bit rushed. You might not usually have the time to slow down and show your kids what all goes into creating a meal. Use this time to teach your children to cook. Even the young ones can help. It’s a lesson in working to create something delicious. Sure, it can be hard work, but it’s all worth it when you sit down and eat the meal together. Cooking is an important life skill kids should learn for the future. The kids may even appreciate you a little more when they see what it takes to make a great meal.
Clean
Cleaning isn’t usually something put on the ‘fun activities’ list. However, it needs to get done anyway. This is the perfect time to get it done and out of the way. That doesn’t mean you need to make it boring. Play music and have fun while cleaning. You might make a competition out of it for your kids.
