Keeping Tabs On Your Kids In Their Teens
When your kids start to grow older and want more freedom out of the house, it is very common for parents to be worried. When your baby is suddenly going to parties and their friends for sleepovers it is no wonder a lot of us want to keep tabs on them to make sure they are safe.
Today we want to discuss how you can keep an eye on your child when they are away from you and make sure they know how to stay safe in the world.
Check their social media
If you haven’t heard from your child for a little while and you begin to worry – the best port of call is likely their social media. Kids are very social creatures and they love sharing things about themselves and their day. If you want to make sure your child is ok, a quick check on social media will likely show you that they are fine and dandy.
Track them
When you want to keep an eye on your child and they are going to be far away from you, it is not a bad idea to try a skip tracer or a tracking app on their phone. Controversial perhaps, but for longer journeys and absences it is a way to keep them safe and make sure that you always know where they are. That way if anything ever happens you will be able to find them.
Ask them to call
It is important to establish ground rules with your child when they visit others – and one of those is to call when they reach their destination safely and perhaps just before they go to bed. It is a good idea to instill this behaviour into your child because it will put your mind and ease and will keep that firm connection with you even when you are far apart. It is important to do this to ensure that you know where your child is at and that they are ok.
Be open and honest
When teaching your child to check in with you – the best way to deal with it is to be open and honest. Tell them why you want to stay in touch and that it is for their safety as well as your peace of mind. This is something that is so important because if you don’t do this your child might simply assume that you are spying on them. Making them understand the reason behind your need will help them understand and it will at least put them on the same page.
Become approachable
It is so important to be approachable to your kids when they are reaching their teens. This is something that will help you because if they start to get messages from an unknown person or they have a problem they will come to you instead of keeping it to themselves.
