4 Tips on Helping You Achieve Your Goals
Goals are essential things to have in life if you want to have a successful life and career. Without setting appropriate goals, you have no focus. You do not know which subjects to study, what hobbies to do, books to read, etc. You will be treading water, not really getting anywhere. Direction is a huge asset in the world. Things don’t just come to you, you must work at them, and that means you need to know where to go. There is such a wide range of choices available that it can be very confusing. Perhaps you have an interest in a wide variety of subjects. Although this is great and shows you have an active and inquiring mind, unfortunately, you can’t do everything. Getting somewhere is about having drive and focusing on a particular area, and being somewhat blind to all avenues. Distractions will come in all shapes and sizes, but you need to be strong and go for your goal.

Tips on Choosing Your Goals
As mentioned above, there is a world load of choices available to you, so how on Earth do you choose? Well, there are many things that you should pay heed to. The first thing is to consider your personality type. Think about who you are and the things that interest you in life. What are your strengths and weaknesses? Maybe make a list of all your likes and dislikes and try and find a career that matches your likes. You may think that being a doctor is a great career, which it is, but if you hate blood, then you aren’t going to get very far down that avenue. Although it is not impossible to do something that does not play into the things that you find naturally easy, if you play against your strong points, then you will find it a lot harder. The more difficult something is, the more it may impede your resolution. What you are looking for is a natural flow with a subject, something that feels right. If you believe that everyone is good at something, then you are sure to find this thing if you look or it. As well as career goals, you should consider other aspects of your personality that will affect your life and happiness. If you want to travel, or if you want to stay home and raise a family, then you must find a career that works with this. A travel journalist is great for a travel enthusiast, whereas something in the local community or a work-from-home job may be the perfect thing for someone who wants to raise a family. It may be a good idea to make a pros and cons list for all the career avenues that interest you.
Write Your Chosen Goals Down
So, you have finally decided what to want to be or what you want to do, now it is time to start making it real. One of the grist things to do is write the goals down. The reason for this is to make it a real thing that actually exists. By doing it, you are turning it from a thought into a statement of intent. Once you have written the goal down, put it somewhere you can see it, on the fridge, for example. Every time you walk past, you will be reminded of your goal, and this will slip into your subconscious more and more. You will find it easier to do the things you need to do by doing this. Once something is in your subconscious, you make unconscious decisions that propel you in the direction of your goal. Whether it be reading more about a certain subject or jogging more so you can run that marathon. It is a method that works.
Break Down Your Goal
To get from where you are to where you want to be is a journey. You cannot simply step into being a lawyer; you need to go through a long process to get there. It may seem impossible from the position you stand, but if you break the goal down, it will be far easier. So, start breathing it down into simple, bite-sized chunks. Start with the grades you need to get in the specific subjects you need. Do you need an A in Math, for example? Then you need to work out the university course you have to take. Then there are a lot of other activities that can help you get there too – like voluntary work and reading. If you want to own your own car garage, then you could start fixing up old cars and buying auto repair manuals, etc. Think about a part-time job you can get that will help you. Perhaps you can start networking with people who are already in the posting you want to be in. You can learn so much this way. You may even be able to get a mentor who can talk you through all the things that they did with a view to you copying their process.
Reward Yourself Throughout
It is going to be a long rod to get where you are going, so you are going to have to have some time out along the way. If you don’t do this, you are going to burn out and possibly give up altogether. You can do this at regular intervals or when you have achieved something. Say you have memorized a new concept or process or have achieved the grade you need to get; treat yourself. This can be anything from a cake, or a handbag, to a holiday somewhere. Rewards throughout the process are a taster of the end reward, which is achieving your goal. Once you are on the other side, you can treat yourself wherever you want. So, treats now are just a taster of a better life in the future and a way of reminding yourself why you are going through the struggle. Nothing worth doing is easy. Remember that when you are up all night revising.
