When you are taking time off from work, you must make sure your sabbatical is done right. You cannot take a trip for an extended period without preparing for everything. You may need to make plans months in advance, but these will help you have the most amazing trip possible during your sabbatical.
Whether you are working for a different firm or school on sabbatical or not, you must make sure you have scheduled time to be a time of rest. The plans below should give you an idea of how you can create a sabbatical that will truly recharge your worn down batteries.

Your Schedule

When you travel, you need to have a set schedule you keep to. When your schedule is erratic, you are going to get worn down with the inconsistency in your work. A sabbatical is meant to be relaxing, and you must work hard to relax. While you may only get one day off from work at home, you need to get two or three days off during your sabbatical every week. God rested on the seventh day, and you can find time to rest, too.

Your Travels
You must use your sabbatical as a time to travel and see new things. You could go anywhere, but you must make sure you see the sights around your temporary location. Taking day trips to small towns, historic areas, or monuments will enrich your soul without sapping your energy. Make sure your possessions are locked away when you take small day trips. The Self Storage Place recommends using Victoria storage to lock away important documents and possessions for one day or one week.

Your Friends
You should do everything you can to make new friends as you go. Take your sabbatical with a family that hosts you, or take it in the middle of a busy town. You can make friends with the bartender around the corner, or the people you end up working with. You must have people to connect with when you are away from home, and be sure you are never disconnected from home for too long.

Extracurricular Pursuits
You should also engage in other pursuits on your sabbatical. You could write poetry, paint, sculpt, play a musical instrument, or dedicate yourself to the study of another subject other than your own. You need an outlet for your time you cannot pursue when you are home.

This is a great opportunity to take a break and find yourself. Make sure you plan well ahead of time so you can get the rest and relaxation you need without the added stress.
