5 Boho Design 2020 Trends You Can DIY for Cheap
The Boho design trend is sticking around. While there are plenty of stores that offer Boho décor, you can make a lot of things yourself. Boho design is loaded with natural fibers. From plants to burlap, you can find ways to brighten your home with textiles and handmade items for little money and lots of style.
Start with Plants
If you have a window, you can grow houseplants. Visit the big box hardware stores and check out their scratch and dent racks for plants on clearance. They may be a little withered or be ready to put into a new pot. To keep your plants from cluttering up your tables and bookshelves, you can make macramé plant hangers. Mount a heavy duty hook at the top of your window frame and hang your new plant. Be sure to keep it moist in its new environment and fertilize as directed.
Fabrics are Key
A simple way to turn a bedroom into a Boho paradise is to use a bright piece of fabric as a bedspread. You can take a plain light-colored cotton sheet and tie-dye it to serve as a bedspread on top of your other blankets. Check thrift stores for bedding that can serve. Remember, you just need a flat sheet, the bigger the better.
Go for Comfort
Soft throws and furry pillows are a great addition to a Boho home. Again, your local second-hand shop is a great place to start. Old couch cushions can be reused or recovered with plush, bright fabrics. Old blankets can be cut down to serve as chair covers or couch throws.
Keep Things Open
Your Boho closet can be a set of hooks on the wall. A Boho bookcase may just be boards and bricks. To customize the look, paint the boards one color and the bricks another color. Boho decor pieces should look lived in and well-loved. Just make sure they are sturdy too.
Use Natural Pieces
In addition to plants, look for baskets and furniture that feature either bare wood or plain fibers. Natural fibers can get dusty, so don’t be turned away by something at a secondhand shop that looks dowdy or even grimy. Canned air can quickly brighten any woven object that needs a bit of cleaning. Avoid treating anything made of natural fibers with water or soap as this may bind the dust to the object and make it impossible to clean.
Boho design will free you from worrying about buying new pieces or focusing on matching things up. This free-spirited design practice is enhanced by items that don’t go together. If you love it, use it.
