Stop Making These Excuses To Give Up On Your Dreams
When you’re young, it seems as though the world is your oyster. A cornucopia of experiences and accomplishments just waiting to be cracked open and savored. We marvel at the possibilities tomorrow will bring as we build an infrastructure of dreams on which we build our life expectations.
But as the years go by, and we accumulate the responsibilities of jobs, careers, relationships and parenthood we can find ourselves sacrificing our dreams to accommodate the needs and expectations of others. Before we know it, we’re bogged down in the ebb and flow of routine, which can make us fall asleep at the wheel. And in this state, we cen be distressingly quick to abandon our dreams at the altar of comfort and convenience. When the urge to excel, step out of our comfort zones and achieve our goals ignites inside us, we keep on using the same excuses to suppress it.
But as we can see, any of these excuses is easily debunked.
I’m too busy
We all get the same 24 hours in every day. But how we use them speaks volumes about how serious we are about achieving our dreams. Want to get better at managing your time. Warren Buffet has one word for you… focus. The entrepreneur and investor with a net worth in excess of $70 billion says that truly successful people say no to almost anything. Maybe the problem isn’t that you are lacking time, it’s that you’re lacking focus.
I’m too tired
Nobody’s saying your life isn’t stressful or that your work isn’t tiring. But if you expect to get that big promotion, get Grand Canyon University Accreditation or make the leap to entrepreneurship, you need to find the energy from somewhere. Nobody can supply it for you.
My advice?
Start training yourself to get up at 5am. It allows you to get an early start on the day, gives you a couple of hours’ extra time and allows you to energize yourself so that you can hit the ground running every day.
But I have kids
There’s no denying that parenthood places a lot of demands on your time and energy. But by no means are they an impediment to achieving your goals. You just need to box clever when it comes to time management. You may need to lean a little heavier on your support network, be proactive about managing your schedule and draw on reserves of energy you never knew you had. But if you want something bad enough, there’s always a way.
I’m too old
Please, please, please stop saying this to yourself. You’re never too old to stop pursuing a life that will bring you challenge, fulfilment and joy. While it’s perfectly fine for your priorities to change and for your goals to shift in different stages of your life, at no point ever is it acceptable to just give up.
Stop making the same old excuses. Set up an infrastructure that will help you to break out of your comfort zone, and seize the life you want with both hands.
